Not only was Paco de Lucia and warm hearted and kind man, who could play guitar at the highest levels,..he magnetically attracted many other extremely talented individuals to accompany his shows and tours, truly an incredible artist of all time.

Many people play the guitar badly. Others play it well, but very mechanically, without much soul. Others are quite good at guitar, and they can even improvise. However, very very few people can _express_ themselves by playing the guitar. The guitar is not just a musical instrument. It's a way of communication. It's a way to create auditory poetry. A way to pour your soul to the outside world.

@@cactu5jack his point is valid tho. I've known the "does Eddie Van Halen's music have a soul" (or any other) debate ever since i've started playing guitar myself. A lot of folk/cultural guitar has a ton of character and drama in the playing itself, not the selection of notes. Fingerstyle techniques are constructed around feeling and character. So I get what he's saying

Paco de Lucía. Te atrapa hasta afinando la guitarra. Es su aura, su quietud, ese temple, ese duende, no sé. Y como le clava la mirada al otro músico (siendo un tímido enfermizo como era) Porque cuando entra en ese paroxismo creativo, él ya está en otro mundo. Donde la timidez no tiene cabida. Es más, se libera de ella. Y crea un diálogo perfecto que lo trasciende todo. Genial.

Decía el maestro Andrés Segovia que si dejabas de tocar un día lo notaba la guitarra, si eran dos lo notaba el guitarrista y si lo dejabas tres días lo notaba el público. Don Paco de Lucía no falló un solo día. Un genio. Se nos fue muy pronto.

Hay guitarristas increíbles como ymwi Malmsteen o Hendrix quizás Steve Vay, pero yo estoy seguro que Paco de Lucía sacaría sin problemas la misma música que ellos hacen pero no estoy muy seguro de que Malmsteen pueda hacer flamenco como lo hace Paco

Si hablamos de técnica y tipo de guitarra,la guitarra española-flamenca es mucho más difícil de tocar ,que una eléctrica que da la nota por los fonocaptores,(pastillas micrófonos),con rozar la cuerda ,sin apenas apretar,y con mástiles preparados para ir "rápido". Si Hendrix, o Ritchie BLACKMORE,intentan tocar una flamenca,con su técnica, la guitarra no suena,ni afina🤷

I live in England and have been listening to Paco for 40 years and have seen him twice in London. The second time, at the London Palladium venue. Afterwards I stood in the street waiting for a friend. Paco emerged from the stage door with his minders. He looked grey, washed out and exhausted. My heart went out to with huge thanks and appreciation.

So I wasn’t really into this type of music till a few days ago. Never gave it a chance but I play guitar and wanted to be more well rounded in my playing.so I decided to look up flamenco never knowing who anybody is or was. Well I’m so glad I did and now a huge fan of Paco….. like I fell in love with this style of music not knowing this is one things my soul always yearned for. It’s so important to always try and be open and try to give any song a listen even if you think you hate the style. Mind opened for the better thank you paco!

Make sure to check out his records with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin as well. Friday Night in San Francisco was an absolutely mind-blowing concert. This version of Mediterranean Sundance / Rio Ancho is sooo good. (Fun fact: Saturday Night was released in 2022, almost 42 years after the concert 🙃) and Passion, Grace and Fire and The Guitar Trio.

Bueno, ya conocemos el indiscutible talento de Paco, pero QUÉ MÁQUINA el interprete del cajón!! Increíble cómo se acopla a cada frase, a cada acento y toda la dinámica que expresa el guitarrista. Es llamativa la atención que pone en cada segundo de los 10 minutos del tema para no perderse de combinar cada golpe con cada nota!!! Lastima no aparece su nombre. Al final, da "cosa" ver como se retira del escenario con toda humildad. Saludos desde argentina. Well, we already know Paco's indisputable talent, but WHAT A MACHINE the cajon performer is!! Incredible how it fits into each phrase, each accent and all the dynamics that the guitarist expresses. The attention he puts into every second of the 10 minutes that the song lasts is striking so as not to get lost combining each hit with each note!!! Too bad his name doesn't appear. In the end, It's a shame to see how he leaves the stage with all humility. Greetings from Argentina.
