There is a similar room beneath The Cantina in Biltmore Village. It contains and ancient vault, an a water passage visible by a hole in the floor. It is big enough to smuggle things in and out. I barely caught a glimpse of it from the video I saw, but the similarities to this room are very clear.

Love this! I currently drive Uber in Asheville on weekends and have dropped riders off here on many occasions. I have also eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. I am so glad the original building was preserved and not torn down and replaced by a condo. I find the mystery of the tunnel to be very interesting even if it is possibly more folklore than fact. It is also told that the tunnel was connected to the police department just across the street and that the police would sell confiscated moonshine during prohibition. Either way, the history is fascinating and I look forward to sharing with my riders.

As someone who worked at this restaurant, personally has been in this "tunnel" and was told so in no uncertain terms: this tunnel is not and never was a tunnel. it is a good fantasization of a historical landmark to aid in its preservation in a world that no longer values these things. I wish and would love to be proven wrong, but sadly, It is simply a liquor cellar, i dont know if you can tell but no tunnel is shown and the back wall is clearly as old as the side walls. .... but the illegal liquor would certainly be kept under strong lock and key such as shown, and the 'tunnel' is solid. the double lock was meant for a "safe room" purpose. the room never connected to any other building and this is all mythologizing to sell investors. I personally was winked at by men in this video regarding the issue. Ill delete this comment if you need me to, Steve, but I do care about real history, and 5000 views in a decade will hardly hurt revenue. and to be clear, it wasnt Steve who showed me this, I wouldnt throw someone under the bus and then name them. Steve is awesome. Everyone there is awesome, just a few lied to make a cool story for a cool building. you really should check it out the history stands on its own.
