Advantages of the Gnarwal are the following. 1. The cargo fly (Tizip) is in the centre of the stern and makes adjusting cargo inside the hull easier and accessing the interior easier for doing repairs. 2. It comes with a foot brace, so the fit can be customized. 3. The thigh straps are curved and better ergonomics than the Nirvana. 4. It comes in 3 sizes vs. 1. A custom fit is easier. 5. The positioning of the backrest is better on the Gnarwal. It is centered vs. the Nirvana is too high. 6. The seat as greater depth on the Gnarwal so you don't need to add any material to raise up the seat.

I've been tempted to do a video like this for a while, it's great to see content like this, thanks Tom. With the Nirvana, you can see if the valve is in the correct position to inflate by quickly pressing it to see if it can be depressed or even just a quick visual check. I've used one for overnighters in the passed as well and found it more than capable of carrying my weight plus a fully loaded backpack. It's a super stable boat. I'd say the alpaca is slightly easier to get onto an edge than the nirvana, although this does make the nirvana super forgiving as a whitewater boat for beginners. Love the content, keep up the good work!

Kokopelli just aren’t made as well as Alpackas are. But still good for budgets. Both companies offer great customer service.

Sehr gutes Video! Für mich noch keine Entscheidungshilfe gegen ein Schlachkajak. Aber ich werde mir noch mehr Videos ansehen. Das Gnarwhal gefällt mir schon gut. Aber halt der Preis.

Danke Andreas. 😆 Einmal in ein Top-Packraft investiert und man muss sich nie wieder Gedanken darüber machen. Und Vorteil ist, sollte man es doch irgendwann mal wieder verkaufen wollen, so sind die Alpackas ziemlich wertstabil. LG Tom

Danke Tom! Habe noch das mit einem Kg, Gewicht gesehen. Das könnte man sich getrost als Zweitboot zulegen. Ist auch vom Preis her o.k.

:D Hi Caj, i know what you mean, but there are more possibilitys to mount the seat straps. You know it's Seons Gnarwhal and he prefer a really stiff connection to the boat. If you strap the seat like that way you have a tight connection and more controll. In addition the blue metal hook is free for to use it for the throwbag or mount a drybag with somethings else. I like it too to mount the seat like that. Cheers Tom

Informativer Vergleich, vielen Dank ! Wie sieht es aus mit dem Wasserstand im Boot falls ich einen ruhigen Flussabschnitt befahre, sitze ich da die ganze Zeit im Wasser oder läuft das Wasser ab ?

Hi, freut mich, dass dir das Video gefällt. Zu deiner Frage. Nein, man sitzt nicht im Wasser, da die Sitzkissen dick genug sind. Das einzige was mehr oder weniger ständig im Wasser ist, sind die Fersen, da die am tiefsten Punkt im Boot sind. Je nach dem wieviel du wiegst, bzw. wieviel Gepäck du in dein Boot packst ändert sich natürlich der Tiefgang und dementsprechend wie viel bzw. wenig Wasser ist im Boot. Dein Hintern ist aber immer über der Wasserlinie. Um einen guten Trockenanzug kommst du bei einem Selfbailer nicht drum herum. Gruß Tom

Wolverine self bailer vs Nirvana? Wolverine seems more agile, fast and playful. Better back support? Do you sit higher?

Hey Andreas, yes I agree. The Wolverine is more agile and playful. And you will sit much more comfortable in the Wolverine then in the Nirvana. And yes, you even sit higher, because the seat cushion is thicker then from the Nirvana. So all in all the Wolverine is a better packraft. BR Tom

Welche Größe hatte denn das Gnarwhal ? Größe L ? Schien von den Bildern gleich groß wie das Nirvana zu sein. Und welche Körpergröße hast du (als Vergleich), damit du gut im Boot verspannt bist ?

Hey Thomas, ja das Gnarwhal war in Größe L und ich bin ca. 179cm mit einer Sitzlänge von ca. 115cm. Hab sehr gut in das L-Gnarwhal rein gepasst, da die Größtabelle für das L eine optimale Sitzlänge von 107-117cm angibt. Gruß Tom

🤣 there is no way to place two people in the gnarwhal. Just forget it. If you are interessted for a combination between 1 and 2 Person Packraft have look on the Alpacka Explorer 42, MRS Adventure XS or Anfibio Sigma TX. These packrafts you can paddle alone or with your partner. Cheers Tom

Ja und zwar bewusst. Da sich die Preise von Jahr zu Jahr ändern, habe ich sie nicht mit aufgenommen. Zum Vergleich. 2019 hat das Alpacka Gnarwhal unter 1600€ gekostet, jetzt kostet es 1900€. Bei Kokopelli ist es ähnlich.
