Rule number 1 for camping, be comfortable. That sleeping bag is spot on.
I’m sure in last year you’ve learned more about packing/ camping gear. As a former ultralight hiker I may have a couple of suggestions. Ziplock bags for clothes, tea & coffee, electronics, batteries, ect... Reduce the bulk and weight of bags as much as necessary. Velcro straps for chair, table, no need for the bags. fairy lights in stead of lamp, smaller bed pump ultralight much better. Being able to shed all the extra bags that products come in will reduce the bulk and simplify packing. Also, will drop some weight. Love the fun video’s. 🎉😊
A very small point but… I have a set of the little plastic bottles that you carry for oil and washing up liquid. They’re brilliant.
For me ! ... I learnt many years ago that bikes and camping are not a good mix. I feel B&B is the way to go. FWIW.
Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing info on your motorcycle camping gear. Safe travels to you. Cheers!

Awesome video Charlie, well done, thanks for sharing! 👍👍 PS Head torch are always handy too when camping.
Hats off to you..I started bike camping a year ago on my Triumph , this year I camped across France , Belgium , Holland and Germany...lots of lessons learnt on not what to pack , but you've got it pretty much spot on ...not ex forces by any chance...I use mess tins as well ! I think your job teaches self reliance and how to approach practical problems...I'm looking forward to your road trip .. PS I'm 57 this weekend...never too old to tour 😍

You seem to have it all covered If I may suggest swap the open ended spanner’s in your toolkit for ring/open ended ones Open ended spanner’s always stretch when trying to undo tight nuts usually slipping off and rounding off nuts And bolts ring /open ended spanner’s can be hooked together to give more leverage
So impressed with how much gear you can get on ya bike 👍

Midge are horrible definitely a good idea the hat I’m now 67 but a young man at heart still like camping but you definitely need the comfort great little vlog
Hi Charlie, Goodluck on your forthcoming trip up to the Granite city Aberdeen, my dear old Dads birth place! We are all guilty of carrying too much kit..Me included! You could trim your kit down a bit you know!:) I know you love your kettle and stove and mess tins but something I'm a fan of is the Trangia Storm cookers. They come in two sizes and nest together. I have both sizes in my collection but for a one or two person cooker the Trangia27 is great. It has two pots, a kettle, a meths burner and frying pan and a chopping board, all nests together and takes up little space and is light weight. As an added bonus the fuel, Meths, also makes a great cleaning agent for specs. These cookers have gained cult following and will last forever as there are no moving parts. Just one other thing I've learned is regarding your lighter.....Carry two...The old saying "Two is one and one is None". If your lighter fails then you have no backup! Maybe even carry a ferro rod and learn how to use that, guarenteed fire even if you drop it in a river! Oh the lamp...No...It's too big and bulky..Take a look at the Goal Zero Mini and Micro...I have the Micro, gives all the light you'll ever need and one charge will run for a very very long time, they are dimmable and also can run as a lamp or a torch.. These lamps also double up as an emergency battery and can be used to recharge phone etc. The Micro weighs 2.4 grams! But above all have a safe and enjoyable trip. Sandy
@restdayrider
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Sandy 😊 I'll definitely look at the lamp, and pack that extra lighter. The stove set up may have to stay for a bit as I'm all spent out. I did try a Trangia Spirit Burner with a Firebox stove, but it used more meths than I could carry! 😏
@WiltshireMan
Жыл бұрын
@@restdayrider The spirit burners do work better with the proper wind protectors and with the simmer ring for a more controlled burn. The Firebox is a great stove but quite draughty and the spirit burner will burn more fuel when used in one of those. Check out Susanna Thornton's channel, she is a bike packer and cooks amazing proper food with her Trangia storm cooker. Maybe something you can add to your kit in the future, You will save a lot of space

Wow that was really fun to watch. I can’t believe that me and a lady from England have just about the same setup. Running everything, or as much as you can, in one waterproof bag is the best way to go. I’m just like you. Comfort is the only way. I use a Coleman air mattress that has a built in pump that uses D batteries. No air pump to pack. And if it gets low in the middle of the night just turn the switch and it blows back up. And that kettle is great to. That company makes all collapsible camping dishes bowls and cups. Takes up no space, I have a waterproof bag a little bigger than your medical bag and I get everything you got in there. One more bag for my tall wall tent. I got leather saddlebags on my bike. Just good enough to keep my tools rain gear and tire air pump. One bit of advice. Get more tools. And repair stuff. All the packing is only good if you can get there and back. And I think you better buy another chair for your dog.

Enjoyed your honest video! I laughed...when you had trouble with the Leatherman..( Me too!) The thing about bike camping is that even after years of experience, you seldom are able to pack and load it in exactly the same way. Not enough folk practice beforehand. And 20% of what we take we never use. A good rule of thumb is to ensure you have space to pack more stuff, even when you are fully packed, and don't forget to pack waterproofs... where you can get at them! Putting tents up etc at home in the rain is really worthwhile to gain experience. Is your stove a Coleman petrol one?. I use one of those and a Trangia alcohol burner. Will you be doing any winter rallies?! ( See you at the Dragon!)

Hi Charlie, enjoyed your video - not sure about the family sized sleeping bag though. Watching some of the roads you ride, might I suggest that you wear on a lanyard a whistle. I use a Regatta when I'm riding. Bikes and riders don't always end up in the same place after an accident and whilst you may not be able to call out, you'll be able to use a whistle to get help. I also have a small Halfords jump-pack which will start the bike if the battery goes flat, but it charges my phone at night and gives me a light as well. Keep the videos coming, quite like your sense of humour.
