    Whilst not basic training. Any otc (university officer training Corps) training we do it’s always best to have a pair of open toe shoes for the shower and whenever trying to dry out boots but are needing footwear. Talcum powder is also your friend and can always rely on thick plastic tent pegs to never break or bend on you in the field 👀.

    Basic training will be the worst experience of your life until you look back after pass out and see it as the best thing you've ever done. Work hard. Griz it out. Stop mincing. Switch on and get a grip. Watch out for week 7, brace up to anything that moves and don't fall asleep in lessons. Key tips 1. My rifle, my kit, myself. 2. Waterproof everything on exercise. 3. Be at the right place at the right time in the right kit and DON'T LIE. Good luck 😉

    You’ll need two wash kits. Once for the field and one for the camp. Saves a lot of hassle. Most regulars will have two sets of everything. As you can keep one packed. And one to use. Plus don’t forget toilet rolls and spare laces. And you’ll need bungees. Get good green ones.with a bit of length. For putting your poncho up at night. Talc powder for your feet. Try and get a survival kit. And get a good mag torch. Not that head torch. You’ll not be able to use that in a tactical situation at night. As you’ll have your helmet on. You’ll end up putting all you wee stuff like your housewife polish and brushes in plastic bags. As them containers take up to much room. Don’t forget bite and stings cream. As you will get bit in the field by all sort of bugs. Good luck.

    Personally I'm a fan of Jungle knots over bungees, bit less hassle in the poncho set up. That exact headtorch does fit round the old helmet as well, so worth the investment (although in most cases just get your eyes adjusted to the dark dyknow what I mean)

  • @herbie70philip

    @herbie70philip

    Жыл бұрын

    @@notactuallytesco you will not be able to use a head torch in stand two. And as for your eyes getting used to the dark. You’ll be in places where night vision doesn’t happen. Plus jungle knots over bungee’s. Your off the mark thinking it’s quicker. Plus you’ll end up with more knots than a squirrel’s den. And as someone who’s been to the jungle. You need to be able to unclip your poncho with little hassle. As at nighttime you cant see anything. That’s why you don’t patrol at night.

    @@herbie70philip I'm in mate, I know. I've set my jungles knots up to just be permanently attached, and tucked away when not in use in some tailored pouches on the poncho underside. I personally prefer the headtorch setup to a normal torch, for no particular reason, although it's handy having one of each and sorting one out with the 'pinprick' method to use if needed. The eyesight thing was a bit more of a throwaway comment innit

    Top tip, buy canoe bags. They waterproof everything 100% when on Ex and when packing ur clothes u can squeeze all the air out making them easy to pack. Canoe bag everything that u dont want wet. Get a big one for ur bergen and loads if smaller ones for individual items. Finally, U dont need luck just get ur head down and give it 200% on everything you do.

    Ya'll do it way different than we do here in the US. We show up to a processing station, get loaded on a bus like cattle, get on a plane to the state where the base is, and get on another bus to the base. We show up with the clothes on out back and a small gym bag with a minimal amount of extra clothes and underwear and hygiene items. Its more like going to prison. We get all of our clothing, etc. on arrival. Don't even think about bringing any food or drink item with you on the bus.

    Still remember doing the same myself back in 1995. Can't remember how I packed my kit though, I suspect that the 58 pattern webbing went already packed, and the rest would have been in the issue kitbag. You are SO lucky that they've retired 58 webbing!! It was terrible, everything COULD be squeezed in when it was dry, but as soon as it got wet, then it was game over. It really was shrink to fit! The water bottle wouldn't come out of the pouch anymore, the belt wouldn't fit, and the sleeping bag.....NO chance. The sleeping bag itself was great when dry as it was goose down, but once wet, it lost ALL of it's insulation properties which isn't ideal on Salisbury plain in Winter!

    In Australia we dont get bungees. We use thin hootchie cord. A better option is 6mm thick tent elastic. Buy it at camping stores. And you can tie it off or get little caribeener clips on Amozon. Bex Bugout Surviver did a vid on that. We used that a good 20yr here. Also makes a great clothesline. Tentpegs. Bend them up out of Tig welding rods. Cheap easy light. First aid kit. Better to use a piece of thick cardboard if you worried about crushing stuff made into a oblong and use a drybag. Tupperwear great. But it takes up room and weight. Headtorch. Im old school. We had D cell angle torch. Red orange white and green filter. Green filter is very soft on eyes. Those red lamps...you can see them miles away. Green under 100m on a beach open. But you can get headtorches with red and green on them. Buy yourself a merino buff as well.

    I'm a U.S. Air Force veteran who served 6yrs in the Illinois State Air National Guard (temp duty in The Pentagon & also at Andrews AFB where our president's Air Force One (2 twin) planes are at. So I was in a reserve capacity, but volunteered for 3 & 6 month active duty assignments. U.S. Educational benefits are diff in Nat'l Guard/Reserve/active USAF. After basic & technical training Air Nat'l Guardsmen (like me) got to start 4 years of free university at any in-state, non-private college/univ & government pays 4yrs tuition + monthly cash in the G.I. Bill. My question is: where are you serving your duty, how long are you committed for and what educational benefit/waiver if any, do you get? Just stumbled on your video & was curious. Although I served in Chicago, I now live in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida 😊

Lost your water bottle, fill a condom with water and protect it with a sock, use it for cooking, making a wet (tea/coffee) washing. Use it as a tourniquet or to keep dressings in place. There are so many uses for them, to list them here would take a month of Sundays lol. Condoms, bloody hoofin'.
