OTOH the 1999 "Packard" Twelve concept Is strikingly, jarringly repulsive. 3:14 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles front. How could anyone associate this with Packard??? My best guess: in the late 1990s, car designers assumed reptilian, slanted backward round headlights were the only possible 'modernization' of 1955-1957 era forward slanted, high mounted single headlights. When there were much more aesthetic hidden or flush, rectangular interpretations. See also the similarly disastrous bug-eyed, turtle / frog - like 2002 New Thunderbird. 3:25 Styling elements evoke a cheaply done collision repair: * Lumpy side fender 'sculpting' evokes cellulite, cancerous growths, elephantiasis and/or morbid obesity * Rear side window trailing edge looks like repair techs didn't form it correctly * 3:34 Taillights look malformed, almost like drawn with a crayon and/or repair techs making them by hand * 3:34 Trunk lid looks swollen--as if an overzealous and sloppy application of Bondo--giving a hunchback look

I always thought it a real shame that Packard didn't survive. They were good, solid built automobiles, and would still be making amazing innovations in engineering if around today.

The 1958 - 60 Lincolns are what Packard might have been. Packard stylists moved over to Ford/ Lincoln when Packard and Studebaker merged in 1955. They already had the Packard prototype called the "Predictor”. The full-size model of it still exists at the Studebaker Museum. Bigger, wider, longer, lower and boxy, with the same cantilevered rear window, steering wheel, body sculpting, interior and many other features. Packard design influence appeared in 1958 Fords, Mercury, Edsel. Thunderbird's C pillar opera windows were here first. Mercury continued the cantilevered rear window until 1964. The 1961 Pontiac split grill, and Corvette Stingray's hidden head lights are almost indistinguishable from Predictor's if viewed up close.

If Packard would have been a big car for both 1957 and 1958 instead of using Studebaker body shell, it would offered Patrician 4 door sedan, followed by 400 in 3 body styles and they are 2 door convertible, 2 door hardtop, and 4 door pillared sedan, followed by Caribbean with only 2 door hardtop and convertible as of personal luxury car, and Clipper would have been a second year of separate make (as it did for 1956) would have offered a convertible as well as 2 door hardtop and 4 door pillared sedan. These 1957 Packard and Clipper models also would have offered 4 headlights as standard as shown on the drawing boards (Chrysler, DeSoto, Imperial, Lincoln, Mercury, and Nash offered 4 headlights for 1957 cars), and fender skirts are omitted, like almost all 1957 cars, save for Ford Thunderbird. For 1958, Packard and Clipper models would have offered 4 door hardtop, a popular body style for 1958.

Packard was perhaps one of the best America had to offer in the 20s and 30s until WWII when they like others shifted to producing military products for the war effort. Packard engines were highly prized for vehicles and aircraft resulting in the company being flush with cash by war’s end. The end of the war brought a high demand for new cars. The “big three” were quick to bring out new designs with more powerful V8 engines, Packard lagged behind, sticking to older technologies and their flathead straight 8 engine. By the 50s Packard sales had slumped and the corporate coffers were getting low. New more stylish bodies with a new powerful V8 in ‘55 proved to be too little and too late to save the once great luxury car maker.

What year did they make that gold 12-cylinder ? You could swear almost up and down it looks like a Bentley. If that went onto design in the 1950s you could just imagine what cars would look like in the 1975 1980 era........ That very long gold sedan there's a beautiful car. I've been working on cars mechanical & Body Works and custom paint... but I can't stop thinking or even say that is a beautiful beautiful car.... thank you for this video

Poor Packard, it was the best car maker in the world. During WWII, Packard made the Rolls Royce Merlin into a mass produced engine. The Packard/Rolls Royce Merlin were better then the Rolls Royce Merlin. Parkard made the Merlin at higher tolerances and used mass production methods. Chrysler should have dumped the Imperial (which they eventually did) and bought Packard as its own separate division.

Too bad Packard couldn't have stayed afloat to build some of these concepts they would have been a strong competitor to the " big 3"
