Before looking at the actual timestamp, I knew you were referring to that scene, because I also noticed it. And it's not the only one. There are many more scenes where the laws of physics are destroyed, instead of the buildings and ground. For example 3:07. This movie is so stupid it actually cause me pain, intelectually. And full of cliches just for the cool factor.

The reasoning behind it is that the orange one, Athena or something, was made on with really light materials in order to be faster and sleeker. But that still doesn't explain how a few hundred ton mech couldn't put a hole in a building

1:45 ive just realised that raiju doing his little energy conversion is in real time. This means that gipsy really just stood there for 8 seconds after landing a punch Edit: pause the video at 1:55 and set to 0.25 speed. HES LITERALLY JUST STOOD THERE

Plus, you see Gipsy standing there with his hands down at its waist like “Oh- I wonder what he’s doing. Let’s wait and see! 😀” So, unless Gipsy can move it’s large arms at light speed, it’s clearly not in slowmotion and their dumbasses just stood there like fucking idiots waiting to get hit. 😂🤣😂 Which I mean… They completely deserved it… That punch was basically sent by the fans themselves who rightfully hate this piece of garbage movie… 😂

One thing I've noticed is that the cockpits in this movie just feel like rooms that the pilots are standing in. Versus the original where they actually looked like the place where you control a massive robot with attachments for your arms and you had your legs hooked up to these mechanisms that would churn and move the robot. These look like VR setups in Ready Player One.

Very nice analysis. Guillermo Del Toro in an interview said that he wanted the cockpits in Pacific Rim 1 to not be a comfortable or nice place. He wanted the environment within the cockpit to be almost hostile with all the mechanics, pistons, steam, hot air, and sparks. To really emphasize that controlling a Jaegar is hard work and dangerous. The 2nd movie threw all that away. Like you said it's a VR simulator now. Even the pilot suits have been streamlined. They aren't protective metal survival suits anymore. They look like paintball pads and they got rid of the fully enclosed helmet with the glass face. It's just open now.

second movie the Jaegers feel like power rangers. First movie everything about them showed they were big, heavy and slow and hard to control.

1st movie: Jaegars actually move and feel like giant mechs. 2nd movie: Scaled up versions of transformers.

Oh because you like and appreciate a sense of realism in your movies about giant robots battling giant lizards. And what exactly do giant make believe giant mechs "move and feel" like? It's almost as if the whole thing is made up and "realism" is open to interpretation, because it's all, you know, FICTIONAL.

I thought Saber Athena's fast movement made sense, since it was designed with speed and agility in mind, but every other Jaeger (especially Bracer Pheonix) feels way to quick for their size.

scrapper, sabre athena, and november ajax are the only jaegers here that move correctly based on how they are built. wiki says sabre is built with lighter materials and have more flexible joints.

Pacific Rim logic: Cherno Alpha is the heavy tank jaeger so he moves slow but he delivers a mean punch. Pacific Rim Uprising Logic: Green Jaeger (idk the name its so forgetable) Is the heavy tank jaeger so naturaly it has the speed of striker eureka and is lightweight enough to slide.

I did watch this movie when it came out. It only just hit me though the sheer amount of destruction the mechs are causing to their own cities. In the first film, sure some losses were going to happen in a fight. The mechs never went out of their way to outright destroy buildings though.

Honestly it doesn't feel like there these massive machines anymore and there's not enough cuts or shots to actually show the scale well enough It felt like watching a boxing match instead of a massive Yeager fighting a monster the size of a skyscraper

Its also funny how despite being more colorfull, these Jaegers just lacked any personallity. You have orange sword guy and Gipsy danger. Everyone else are just filler. First movie: 3 armed crimson typhoon shaulin fighting robot with 3 users, Gypsy danger, Eureka the enhanced version of Gypsy danger, Cherno alpha a punching russian robot with piston hands. Even though their color scheme was less obvious I still remember them far betyer than I do any of those from the sequel

Watch the movie before you talk trash, cause they weren't protecting the city, they were doing all they can to prevent the kaijus from reaching Mt. Fuji, or else the planet would be destroyed, and who's got time to care about the buildings when they're charging towards giant monsters (The name is Saber Athena)

Here’s the only compliment I will give this movie, it had interesting ideas. I love the idea of evil Jaegers and the combiner Kaju. However, what it truly needed was a better storyline and a better structure. I do agree that I miss the weight not being there like it was in the original and maybe some of the characters weren’t as good. But I still have hope in the future that it will be fixed or something. Who knows.

You know I've watched this movive multiple times, and what I've always found so strange is there are brief moments where both Kaiju and Jaeger feel accurately weighty... and then in almost the next scene they won't. It almost feels like two different crews were editing the GFX scenes.

Jaegers: Yah! we did it fam. Mayor of the city: We will never be able to financially recover from this.

Gipsy danger: I can kill two kaiju's with a ship as a bat , containers and have a broken arm, crippled leg, and I won Gipsy avenger: I need a team to kill three kaijus, a mega kaiju, and got my team destroyed with one kid ded

I love how in the first movie the Jaegars tried not to destroy the city while fighting the monsters but in this they just don’t care and bring down buildings on the monsters. I actually thought this was cool and made the fight scenes entertaining.

too. many. ideas. this ending is transformers-level of busy, and that's not a good thing. Even in Kimer's amazing 4k definition, you've still got to go frame-by-frame to follow some shots.
