Laying out the golf course, as if you're just moseying around, is such cool, chill, sensible idea. That's awesome. I hope my dad and I can experience this place sometime

I love talking about golf courses, and I just love The Fried Egg. To have videos like this, and a podcast that focuses on golf courses and golf course architecture is amazing. Thank you The Fried Egg team!

LOVE the new long-format series, Andy and looking forward to future roundtable discussion installments. Garrett and Will were entertaining contributors and I loved all the drone footage combined with the hole layout telemetry in the upper left corner. Don't know how frequently you plan to put these out, but hopefully a couple times a month. Bravo!

You guys like Pacific a lot more than I do! Interesting insight about the "connector" par 5s, though. Hadn't considered that element.

I've never played 9 to the upper green. We played to the the lower left green 5 years apart (2016 and 2021). I considered playing to the upper green anyway last time, but our caddie talked us out of it. Is there an established rotation? It seemed to me that both times they might have opted for the more sheltered lower green because of the 20 mph NNW winds in June. I agree with Andy that the left green's location is good but right green's is great

I've heard it said about Pacific dunes that the layout of the holes doesn't actually go well with the prevailing winds, so while the layout on the surface is fantastic, it doesn't suit the prevailing winds

Which prevailing winds are you talking about? Winter and summer winds are almost completely different. I've been there twice, both times in March. Had winter winds both times.

@@joellahrman4557 I think the reference was to summer winds since that's when the course would get the most play. It was a comment from Soly from No laying up, saying that Pacific dunes did not play well in the prevailing summer winds

@@pensguin68 Maybe I'll watch to see what he said. I'm too poor to go there in summer! March is great, plenty of light for 36 a day but the rates are well below what you pay in summer. I was hoping I would get a mix of winds but it's been all winter wind both times. In winter winds #4 is a beast, you're heading into a stiff wind that's also blowing right (out to the ocean). #18 is a slog heading into the wind, and #14 is about impossible to hit. But #13 is an iron and a wedge, and #12 is reachable. Try to visit if you haven't, Bandon is golf heaven!

I would love to visit, used to live in Washington but now I'm on the opposite coast so it's less likely. It's the tourist sauce Oregon series when they go to Bandon. I'm not sure which episode Soly says it in because they go to all the Bandon courses and compare them. Soly does most of the talking during the Bandon dunes episode and only a little talking during the Pacific dunes episode

I think most of the holes run north and south, so a player is usually playing into the wind or downwind and not very often with crosswinds. Wind is generally out of the north in summer and from the south in winter.

This video needs a “SPOILER ALERT” tag. Amazing drone shots and information. I recommend watching only after you’ve played and experienced the course.
