    you, me same age....lol my father used to repair cb radios as extra income.....I used to spend a lot of time in his radio room with him. Your videos bring back those days. He still has his original tram d201 and unamplified d104. I remember the tower raising for the pdl2,s, putting my kid handprint in the cement! lol. We are getting old. Thanks for the videos and knowledge.

    Had one of these Pace's when they first came out. There was never many in Australia. Wouldn't mind finding one again.

    I had a Pace 144, and if it was like this it would explain a lot of the reasons why it was one of my favorite radios that I had tried in my jeep. I know that I had a lot of trouble finding a radio that worked well in my jeep. Most of the radios that I tried in my jeep had a huge problem with noise. the only one that beat the Pace was a Lafayette 625 with the silencer switch...but that did reduce the sensitivity of the radio.

    I was 11 when that radio came out, as far as the clock is concerned I really think the program would be the easy part. They have lots of free code for clocks in Arduino. Not sure that it would be economical still, but maybe he can find another parts radio with the clock option. I build all kinds of clocks myself. I love dot matrix clocks and I get people wanting to buy them when they see the ones I built, but I just do it for fun not profit. I have sold a couple of them. I just enjoy electronics. I do have to recap my vintage amplifier soon. It still works but it is 40 years old now, so soon the caps may go BOOM! Then I may damage a nice amp.

    The MM5316 might be equivalent (or similar enough) to the HD36990 that would make a custom clock board quite easy.

    It seems this is one of the rare makers that don't use any of the traditional Uniden or Cybernet boards. Also, same rule applies, old radios where better built (better filter and general components) than new ones, wright ? Thanks for another great video !

    You are still fairly young - the eye-sight has not gone haywire so far. My eye-sight started failing at around 40 something.

    Do you think the double sided board on this radio is like the Motorola's PLAcir boards?

    Are the 40ch switches available anywhere, what other radios have the same 40ch switch. I have a Pace 8092 with an 18ch switch. Thanks.

    Mike I've watched lots of your great videos. Now I have a question, what is your shipping address, because I have a few radios that are in need of repairs, and I would like it if you could have a look at them please and thank you.

    I have restored several things using the retro-bright process and it has never removed the paint from lettering. It works great with keys from old keyboards. Maybe if the quality of the paint was crap but they are usually raised or depressed and they can be repainted easily with a steady hand.

    My first CB from my Great Grandfather was a Pace 123 23 Channel. I got that radio from him and a M1A1 Carbine in 30 Carbine. Not a bad haul for an 11 or 12 year old at the time! Hard to go wrong with guns and radio's! LOL Cold this be adapted to other radio's or would it be too big of a pain in the ass to implement?

    PLL? Is this a phase locked loop radio? Have you ever worked on a J.C. Penney's or Sears phase locked loop single sideband radio? Those are my favorite radios. I think the yellow color looks like a nice patina and I'd leave it alone. It looks well aged.

    I guess if you REALLY wanted too, you could reverse engineer the clock module board and use modern parts to build a new one. :)

    so can your use the other segment and have a frequency counter minus the 2 like 7.205?

  • @mikesradiorepair

    @mikesradiorepair

    You could but it would be very expensive. Designing a one off counter module to interface with the existing display would probably cost 20 times more than the radios worth.
