I feel like the reason Pac Land is in Smash is because it was the direct influence for Super Mario Bros. Miyamoto has said that it’s one of the most influential games for him as a designer, and he wanted to create his own take on it for the NES with Mario. Pretty cool honestly.

@@Duskool Can't recreate the functionality of the Power Pellet properly. The ghosts are only supposed to appear blue to the player who eats the Power Pellet, so the Pac-Maze stage doesn't work if multiple players can play on the same screen. I suppose they could just not make the ghosts turn blue, or just not feature that mechanic in the first place, but you know Sakurai. He doesn't like making compromises, for better or worse.

I'm fascinated with the 80's and 2010's Pac-Man cartoons because any attempt to craft a coherent narrative out of source material which resembles viewing amebas through an 8-bit microscope deserves attention for the sheer ambition alone.

I love how, no matter how much "nostalgia" was in or not, they always gave Pac-Man an arcade aesthetic. Like, being intentionally behind-the-times, no matter what decade, made the series ahead of its time in the process? That's ridiculously ironic. But still, I love how Pac-Man's whole old-fashioned gimmick has been a thing since even the 90's(when the series was only ~10-20 years old at that point). I'm a 2010's kid, and even I appreciate how they preserved the style no matter what(outside, you know, legal bs). Plus, simply acknowledging Pac-Man being a full-on adult that accepts his age is weirdly wholesome in a way. Well, outside Ghostly Adventures to an extent.

OMG my dude, I actually had that game as a kid! I remember that one being a good time, and it helped make me a fan of the series instead of just "that one old game". Still dunno what was up with that...thing...in the cave from the intro cutscene that was supposed to be the game's villain, though. Pac-Man's got a surprising amount of villains. I played Adventures in Time before I even knew about the World games, so it was cool to see that, "Oh you actually can make a full-length adventure from just mazes". I'd kinda like the series to give that format a shot again if we're not gonna get a new platformer (though I didn't expect Re-Pac, so we might get that too lol). Arrangement even proved that you can do boss fights in mazes, so why not? Though if we're talking obscure Pac-Man games, I'll call your "Adventures in Time" and raise you a Pac-Man All-Stars. It was a multiplayer-centric game, though there was a single-player story mode and the villain was a white-colored magician ghost named Wandy (why the heck do I remember that). Adventures in Time was the better game without question, but It seems like I'm the only one who remembers this one lol.

The one issue I've heard about this remake is Pac-Man's shadow being inconsistent. The remake has the shadow based on the level's actual lighting, which is more realistic than always below him like the original, but makes platforming more difficult without that visual cue of where you will land. 20:36 shows an example, where the shadow would suggest he will land near the top of the objects, but he lands on the bottom-half.

After nearly being sidelined for his reboot, he's back with a remake and a movie. However, looking at it again, not only did he open up the history of side-scrolling action before Mario, and he was respected by its creator, Mr. Miyamoto, but also based on his work, Mario, to compete with him. The reason for the birth of various game characters is undoubtedly Pac-Man, a legend that will never be forgotten.

I said it before, I'll say it again: Ghostly Adventures basically killed the franchise for the rest of the 2010's, and it was so bad to the point Klonoa (a dead IP at the time) was starting to overshadow him in the online gaming community. It's bad when a series known for big console releases gets regulated to mobile shovelware.

Fox (if he’s still around), Jason Sudeikis (most likely as Inky because he played a red (that’s his name, don’t wear it out) video game character in the Angry Birds Movie duology of the late 2010s) and Mario Cantone as Pac-Man, Blinky, Inky and Clyde, Angie Harmon (or Mindy Lee Raskin) as Pinky, Craig T. Nelson (aka Mr. Incredible) and Allison Janney as Blinky’s parents, Sam Elliot as Pac-Bear, Patrick Warburton as Hunter (the grey ghost in Canyon Chaos, one of the world 1 levels in Pac-Man World 2), Debby Ryan as Miru, David DeLuise (aka Jerry Russo, in honour of his father Don DeLuise who would play Don Bluth characters in the 1980s (1978 with The Small One - 1989 with All Dogs Go to Heaven) aka his golden age of animation) as the snowball-throwing blue ghost in world 3 (Ice River Run and Avalanche Alley) of Pac-Man World 2, etc.

My Favorite Pac Man arcade game is actually Baby Pac Man, a cabinet I actually played in real life. Its a combination of Pac Man and Pinball. You play Pac Man on the top screen but theres these 2 entrances on the bottom, and if you enter them, you get to switch the game to a round of pinball. If the ball falls out, the game switches back to pac man except one of the entrances is closed. Yes this was an actual arcade Cabinet and it was awesome! Except for the fact that Clyde was Green for some reason. It didn't feel right for him to go from Orange to Green

Great video! Really fun and entertaining. also yeah, I could go on for ages about all the obscure oddities involving Ghostly Adventures specifically and some of the more under-the-surface reasons it failed. Interesting stuff, though also sad, since I feel that with a little tweaking it could have hit that nice balance of compelling story without falling into the same edgy trap that world 3 did. Unfortunately, GA just... stagnated, was too scared to really play with anything outside the show's status quo, and ultimately the last few episodes petered out with a few gimmicks before being unceremoniously cancelled. Was thinking of doing a video on it myself, actually.

I know that this is kinda off topic, but I went to a local arcade dedicated to keeping older/arcade games from becoming lost media, started playing the OG pac-man and just got addicted for like an hour and a half straight. There really is something so beautiful about the simplistic design of old arcade games. There’s only a single joystick in the original pac-man but it still feels like a kind game of outsmarting the ghosts and managing to juke them to keep munching on those precious dots. Get rewarded for risky plays by an increase and score, and while it may sound stupid to some people, there’s a kind of magical feeling to reaching the top of the scoreboard and claiming your throne as the best PAC-man. I dunno man, OG PM is fun.
