The referee took the point from Romero, not from Holifyeld.

Romero had an excellent final round when Holllyfield ran out of fuel!The refferee gave him a low glove that wasnt really low and took him away one point that would give the round to Romero.Great fighter,same level as Hollyfield and showed better stamina and heart at the end.

Pablo Romero would have taken the Olympic Gold in both 1984 and 1988 Olympics.He had Holtyfield's number and had beaten him twice.

hard to imagine a fighter tiring after 2 rounds, becoming a legend who fought 12 hard fought rounds with mostly much bigger men many times (even 15 rounds once).

If the Cubans had fought in the '84 olympics, Romero would have probably beaten Holyfield again and got the Gold. The '76 US team was special - won a lot of Gold Medals with all the Soviet Block countries there.

Холифилд прошёл школу Пабло, в боксе не все удары должны быть Силовые, Ромеро наглядно демонстрирует, есть удары разрушающие атаки соперника. Так Эвандер выиграл Тайсона.

@@jorgefundora9912 no creo que ganó claramente, para mi perdió sólo al final descontó pero hasta ahí, los jueces siempre favorecían a los boxeadores cubanos quienes para perder tenían que ser masacrados como hizo Wilfredo Gómez con Orlando Martínez.

Mario Alberto los cubanos eran los mejores boxeadores del mundo amateur en esos años, no sólo tenían una figura de primer nivel sino tres en cada peso. Y Pablo Romero, que fue el número 1 del mundo(81kg), le ganó esta pelea en Reno a Hollyfield y después le ganó otra. Ah te aclaro, Wilfredo Gómez no le ganó a Orlando Martínez que fue el campeón olímpico en Munich'72, sino a la segunda figura de Cuba Jorge Luis Romero, eso fue en el mundial de La Habana en el 74. Orlando Martínez, el campeón olímpico se lesionó y Cuba llevó a última hora a J.L.Romero(peso gallo)que llegó a la final y allí perdió por ko con el puertorriqueño.

Bower era muy joven , alli si había ventaja. Aún asi Luis era un mediocre buceando. A quien le ganó para pelear contra bower? Eso es asi, el el profesionalismo se impone otras características.

Brandon Green They are latin speaking brothers. The cuban system is not too much different ftom usa style. They train harder than most plus they cant turn pro. They are usually older and more mature than regular amatuers. Its like you fighting your uncle in some cases. Ha. This is also there job Cuba pays them to box.Holyfield and others had full time jobs about this time.They also practiced as a team daily. Usa boxers were from all over the usa.

There is a myth about cuban boxers and age, since back in the time it was necessary to tarnish, their dominance for the powers in place, both political and sporting ones...Cubans get to compete in high level olympic and world competitions, very early and very well round as boxers, because they start mastering their craft, since kids...Their first golds medals, arrive very early too, that's why you have more cubans than in others countries, become panamericanos,olympics and world champions "several times in a row" ,.They don't have "pro-boxing" so they keep there, winning medals and so, until the olympic age limite,its attained (34).But as you see,THEY don't fight against kids,...They start as kids, and they are crowned as kids too, but later on they keep on evolving into the amateurs ranks and its not up to them, to guarantee the boxing pool depth in another country, while respecting the boxing rules.

Bottom iine is Cuba and the Soviet Block countries had an anvantage. The best amateurs of USA turned pro. The best Cubans/Soviets/Eastern Block kept fighting often 'till their late 20s as amateurs. Stevenson was the most glaring example. He was a 30 yrs old prime HW fighting younger, less expereieced guys.

Bottom line,everything should be relativized, even the fake news, because as i said, the cubans arrive on the world competitions at a very early age, and there, they win,their first gold medals and olympic titles, even with less age, than their rivals (As Robeysi Ramirez,already two time olympic gold at 23...)Up until there, they could even declare, to be in a disadvantage,if the matter of the subject, will be to find excuses, since they dont have sophisticated gyms, top boxing gear,,or that determinant big population,wich is a factor of a massive pool of potential talent, in every sport. if compared to bigger and richer countries.... But hey, cubans dont complaint, they know they are the "spoilers",So they don't try to justify whatever doesn't go, according "to plan"...And if the referees and judges,start to rob their fights as in Houston 99 World Championship,they keep on doing better next time.....(I visit Cuba to train boxing a while ago, you could find a video, here about" that, just search for"Arena Rafael Trejo" ... material is scarce, but talent and love for the sports is abondant)....Have a nice one
