Paal Vazhakka | Plantain and Sago Porridge
Paal Vazhakka is Malabar style Plantain and Sago porridge, more like a dessert served during Iftars and Eid breakfasts . It’s a traditional simple recipe to try . Don’t forget to like and share this reel 💕
Paal Vazhakka
Sago pearls -1.5 cup (soaked in water 15-30 min so it cooks quickly )
Ripe Plantains- 3 medium chopped (nenthrapazham as we get frozen steamed only I have used that)
Water -1.5 cup or more
Milk -2 cup
Coconut milk -1 cup thick milk (I have used coconut milk powder mixed in water )
Sugar -1/2 cup more or less as you wish
Cardamom powder -1 tsp
Salt -1 pinch
Cashew -5-8 pc
Raisins -5-8 pc
Ghee -2 tbs
In ghee fry cashew and raisins and keep aside , in same ghee sauté the plantains and keep aside .
In boiling water add soaked sago and cook till it all becomes transparent jelly kind . Add more water if you need . Be sure to stirr and cook so they don’t stick and burn to the vessels .
Add sugar , milk , cardamom, salt , nuts , plantains and thick coconut milk .
Mix all and boil up and switch off flame . Add more milk if needed . Can have it warm and cooled .
