From Goldeneye 007 to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare via Stargate SG-1, the FN P90 has cemented itself as one of the most iconic SMGs in pop culture. With the help of Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, we break down what makes this unique PDW so iconic, and why games have embraced this weird little SMG.
In this episode of Loadout, Dave Jewitt visits the Royal Armouries to talk to Keeper of Firearms & Artillery Jonathan Ferguson to chat about one of pop culture’s most iconic submachine guns, the P90.

One of my Favourite lines in any show was; the Jaffa staff is a weapon of terror, the P90 is a weapon of war.
Jonathan Ferguson is literally the only person carrying this channel
It’s not a gaming icon. It’s a pop culture icon. Your not a gun channel, stop it.
Remember, the p90 is so famous it somehow found its way into splatoon of all games as the second splatoon’s hero shot. I repeat, this real gun made its way into a children’s game about shooting ink out of toys. What a legacy! Can’t say that about the ak or 1911.
Jonathan Ferguson is becoming an icon. He needs a channel of his own
I wish this series would acknowledge the Metal Gear games more often. Solidus spinning a p90 like a pistol is such an indelible image
This series feels like a continuation of iconic arms, and I'm all for it
Whenever Jonathan talks about FN weapons not being adopted as standard service weapons I get the feeling he forgets the belgian armed forces exist. P90 is a widely used standard service weapon there and scar is now the main service rifle. You may add your belgium isn’t real comments now
All Stargate fans like here!
Why not mention it's made in Belgium??????
In one SG-1 episode they have their clones/robot doubles doing missions and you see them going through the Stargate and i thought "Hey, why are they carrying MP5s again?". It made sense because the robots didnt have the newer P90s and was so happy they put the detail into the show.
Stargate SG-1 was my first taste of the P90 and I've loved it ever since.
The P90 will always be the Stargate gun to me. When I started playing Counter Strike I was immediately drawn to the P90 because of SG-1 and have loved it ever since.
When I was 13, my older brother took me to a shooting range that had a P90 available for rent, full-auto and everything. Everyone there was using handguns, so when we started shooting a fun-switch gun, everyone stopped for a moment to check it out. It was such a cool experience and it's been my favorite SMG/PDW ever since.
The SG-1 reference in the video is so nice. Love that the comments section is full with comments about the show. So many epic memories.
As a kid I loved the P90 in Counter strike, it looked so cool and was so sci-fi even down to its unique loading mechanism. I never thought of it as realistic or functional so my mind was blown researching into this piece and learning how actually it had loads of tactical advantages like the downward bullet ejection or the fact that keeping track of your rounds is easy. And apparently it doesn't jam much despite the wacky feed mechanism! Truly a marvel of engineering.
Not really a gun nut but when Stargate SG-1 was mentioned I had to watch this. And Jonathan Ferguson never disappoints. And now I'm looking forward to the akimbo episode because I do remember Teal'c dual wielding the P90 at least once.
to be honest it was not video games where i fell in love with this weapon it was its use in Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.
It boggles the mind that we never got a Stargate FPS , it would have been a perfect fit.
Stargate SG1 made this gun legendary ! 🤩
