Looking at that new design Moss Pole maybe that Circle base part could be as large as maybe the bottom of the pot you're going to put it in. So if it has 5 in diameter bottom you would get a 4in diameter base and then put some rocks or small brick on top of that which would help way down that pot to keep it from toppling as the plant gets larger.

Those moss poles are gorgeous! A Canadian company called Trofolia makes something similar with much more rudimentary materials, they use PVC pipes with holes drilled through and the outside coated with sphagnum to produce self hydrating moss poles that can be expanded (PVC pipes come pre-threaded) and just have a heavy flange attached to the bottom for stability. Another 52" bendy moss pole I have from Mossify just has a small brick of cement as the base! You could probably do something really beautiful with a small amount of cement poured onto the existing bases being tested. I'm also imagining fancy lattice designs like a quatrefoil instead of the standard check/diamond.... I have my gripes with both Trofolia and Mossify's designs (the bottom of the PVC pipe just ends up full of standing water since the holes don't go all the way down to prevent over watering your plants and makes it prime for scummy build up that is impossible to clean without taking the pole out of the soil! Wtf!) So I am very interested in what Steph and her partner will come up with! PS: I just got an Alocasia Scalprum yesterday and was tickled to see I'm not the only one immediatley in love with the texture.

That's a good point about the base of the Trofolia poles. I should probably stick a skewer down to the bottom to see if there is pooling water there. I live in a very dry climate, so maybe I get lucky for that. But I do like the stability of the flange/base. But it's only good if you are going to totally repot.

OMG I want those moss poles! I'd buy the poles or the print specs to print my own. Having the option of the stake or the base is a big plus! And modular. Wow! I hope you will consider selling them at some point. Pretty please!

Love those moss poles! I make my own with pvc and plastic mesh but they can be a lot of work. Neat to see what 3D printers can do. As for alocasia- honestly mine have never been happier than when I moved them all outside. They love it out there. The grow so big and happy and I dont deal with the spider mite issues that happened when I used to grow plants in the house.

I love those moss poles. I hope the husband has applied a parent right for it if he hasn't already. I might have the stake a the bottom be longer though to give the pole more stability when one decides to screw on the extensions on top.

I grow thousands of orchids in rockwool for years and have been growing my Anthurium and Philodendron for 6+ months, they are doing amazing. The only thing is you need to keep up with fertilizing but slow-release fertilizer solves the problem.

One thing that might be missing with your alocasia is calcium. I know it's very important for my orchids for calcium. Calcium is an on mobile nutrient so it's needed for plant growth and it can't be recycled from an older Leaf like nitrogen potassium and phosphorus can those are mobile nutrients also magnesium is in Mobile nutrient. Since you're growing those in Moss there's not much in the way of nutrients there there's a man who has a KZread channel about orchids and it's called Rick's orchids. He wrote to the better grow people about how do they keep their orchids supplied with calcium since the fertilizer they sell for orchids doesn't have calcium in it. They said they put pelleted lime and there potting media to provide the calcium... to get magnesium for plants you can put a spoonful of Epsom salts and a gallon of water. Magnesium is necessary for the production of chlorophyll. When I water my orchids I soak them in a plastic tub that has magnesium and a liquid calcium it's the Alaska brand right now but you could buy another brand that would work just as well I think it's called Cal Mag it has calcium and magnesium in it. I also put micronutrients that come in a bottle that's in liquid form in that water. The cow bag has to be added first and it's used a lot in Hydroponics. Also something that you might want to look into is seaweed emulsion supplement. It has hormones in it that help a plant know when to grow roots grow leaves grow flowers. But all of the items I put in my water and solution is at half strength and my orchid soaking it every week to 10 days for a half an hour. After my orchids drink up I use the leftover water on all my houseplants Hoyas, and all my other house plants. I also once a month or every six weeks sprinkle some pelletized lime on my orchid bark the orchids are potted in. The line is high in calcium and magnesium. I think anything good for orchids would be good for other plants. I have alocasia and colocasia growing in my pots on my patio. My favorite alocasia is Regal Shield it is so prolific I have the mother plant and one of her babies are never got separated in a pot and they're huge one of her babies is in another pot it's huge and I have three or four other smaller babies and this is all in 2 Summers. I have some other unnamed alocasia especially the one that's 5 ft tall I think the large allocation are easy to take care of compared to the smaller ones

It looks like the newer design could have a rock or a brick set on top of it and then your potting soil and that would really help stabilize set Moss Pole. Is he going to sell these I might be interested if the price is right because it's modular and I could put my own sphagnum Moss down inside! I am amazed at 3D printers and what they're able to accomplish... Who knows what the world is going to be like when my grandkids are my age and in their 70s I bet you we couldn't even imagine I know when I was a teenager I thought the greatest invention were the long spiral cord you could put on a telephone. That way I could talk to my boyfriend in private and drag the phone into my bedroom to talk to him. I was the oldest of 12 kids of course there are probably only ten of us at that time and the bedroom was only private if the other sisters and maybe a little brother or sister weren't in the room at that time we're talkin back in the 60s late sixties or maybe middle sixties might be better teehee. Your husband is one smart guy
