Removing the fog in Persona 4 is like removing the moon in Persona 3. Thank you for restoring this! Now it looks more like the game I played almost 16 years ago.

I've been talking about this for YEARS. I can't wait to play this again. Vanilla P4 is one of the only games I still own for my ps2 sole because of the fog render. People dismiss it but it's an integral part of the aesthetic and narrative. Tysm for doing this

Agreed. I feel similar with the lighting for Persona 3 FES vs Persona reload. I lowkey cannot wait for someone to make a FES lighting mod for reload. I feel like both PS2 games original atmosphere was integral to the story (Persona 3 just being darker in general and the fog obscuring the truth in Persona 4). Glad to see another proud PS2 gamer

I do love Persona 4 Golden's aesthetic as well but there's just something special about how Persona 4 PS2 did it :)

It almost looks like the glasses barely make a dent on what you can see, I like it

I didn''t know about the PS2 fog when I first played P4G which was my first time playing P4 and I remember thinking about how there is no fog in game that could hide the backgrounds. This mod makes the game look so much better.

Just in time for the games 16th birthday too.

Challenge runs are ver fun Only Izanagi runs are very fun and makes the shuffle times actually gopd bcz of the +1 into a stat cards , since its kinda hard to level Izanagi up

As someone who has only played the Golden pc port the pc port looks so much more sterile and unnatural compared to the PS2 original. Great modI miss the Persona Modding server!

This is how I remembered it, only thing missing are the scanlines.

Do you intend to bring back the fog effect in the streets of Inaba? Or is this only restricted to the TV world dungeons? Awesome work though! Will be following your progress!!

@@thedardanitan The plan is to do Inaba next. It's just a large undertaking and I wanted to get *something* out there, so I focused on the TV world first.

Persona and Silent Hill remasters seems to be suffering the same problem: Not enough fog! Great fix.

I was looking for something like this after playing 4 since Golden's visuals are a bit lackluster, great work.

Magatsu Inaba does look better without the fog on an OLED screen but on an LCD I don't mind

​@@SMNFXCNYeah I think one of the big reasons for P4G's visual changes is that OLED screen on the Vita. Vibrant colors probably look really nice with that, hence them boosting contrast and saturation!

Amazing and much needed mod

After almost three hours of playing tonight, I finally beat dark yukiko . She’s a badass boss and I can’t remember how many times I tried using ice magic. 🙄

This is awesome! Me and my friend were talking about the game’s visuals months ago and wishing it looked like the ps2. Any guesstimate on how long the finished mod would take? Ik mods take a while so no pressure but I gotta wait to replay w/ all of Inaba restored 🙏

@@tormont101 This is probably going to be disappointing to hear but I think it's going to take a while longer. Unfortunately I have very little free time to work on this mod and right now I work on it alone so progress can't be that fast unfortunately. I released it with the TV world content complete (excluding hollow forest) so that people could at least have P4 style fog in the TV world.

Wait they got rid of the fog? I played P4 on PS3 (bought it by pure coincidence like a week or so before the Golden port was announced) Feels weird to get rid of the main environmental aspect of the game.

@@RexisSOUL They didn't really get rid of it per say, they changed how it looks instead. This mod is to restore the original P4 PS2 fog and visuals, hence the name

PS2 games were designed on some of the most complex hardware, so some remasters end up looking inferior to the originals. Only a few remasters managed to look the same, like Kingdom Hearts and Ōkami.

It would be cool if the effect got even more strong as you get closer to the cut off date for saving someone

honestly I want to see a comparison between this and the PS2 original as Yukiko's castle seems a bit off but that might be because the render distance fog is still black instead of the original white it was on the PS2.

@@WednesdayMan The fadeout fog for the stairs and stuff is black, yeah. We were trying for some time to figure out how to fix it, but had no luck. Same with the field for normal battles. This is documented in the fog restoration wiki as a limitation, not much we can do about it right now I don't think :(

OG P4 lighting really gave it a darker tone compare to a too cheerful color of P4G. Like, We're having a serial killer for god sake, why everything need to be that bright and colorful. Thanks for the mod though, It would go nicely with my P4 Opening replacer. Truely one step closer to bring P4 back to it original root

It is actually possible, yeah! Had that happen in my first playthrough of P4G actually. It's not really worth it, it does like no damage, but it's pretty funny.

@@tabukisama4793 I've thought about that for a separate mod actually. Main thing is that the old portraits are already used for follow up attacks (lol) so it'd be kinda doubling up on those.

@@Intangiblefool I think it's mostly possible, there may be some caveats to it and I don't think it looks as good as P4 PS2 rain but it's more present than P4G

@@oriongear2499 Not at this time. I was toying with the idea of reducing the contrast in line with the other dungeons, and maybe trying to give it a P4 style pass in the future, but that's a later problem...

I don't really get this. I played through the whole of P4G and at no point did I ever think "Wow, I wish I could see less, that would make this game so much better." In fact I wish there was even less fog, so I could see more than one block ahead in a dungeon. I mean, isn't the whole point of the glasses that they let you see clearly as if there were no fog at all?

@@spiritmuse This mod's goal is to restore the visuals of the original PS2 version of Persona 4, which broadly speaking has a less vibrant look to it. I would recommend looking up how that game looks to understand the differences between it and P4G, and why this mod exists.
