The process of development, the trial and error, the frustration and elation are all part of doing something and learning something at the same time. To all people claiming this to be a waste of time or one mans descent into madness - you might need to rethink what it means to live, love and learn. Part of the whole process of growing as a person is overcoming your own boundaries.....but they're his boundaries to overcome as he wishes....let him do it his way! Provide support and share wisdom but don't be all snarky and annoyed if he doesn't listen or wants to experience or try himself.

Hey Alex! Try blocking the boost port! The angle is quite extreme. I see it is aimed at the exhaust port from what I seen in your CAD drawing. The rear transfers closer to the intake, have a weird angle towards the exhaust as well. I do understand that could create a bad situation where the fresh fuel is being dumped out the exhaust port. I believe it's running better at lower rpm with extreme timing due to not enough fuel in the cylinder. Once you hit higher rpm, the scavenge effect is effected even more. I know the rear transfers should be blowing fuel charge up the back of the cylinder wall up toward the spark plug. The boost port should be aimed at the spark plug. Hope this helps!

@@henkcox8212maybe to mitigate heat hotspots. You see, on „commercial“ 2-strokes the most common power-limiting factor is exhaust valves overheating. Alex doesnt have an exhaust valve, but due to the extreme scavenge timing and high resonant frequency, I think that otherwise the upper lip of the port could overheat.

Here is something else I read recently. The TZ250-A Yamaha race bike had a static 24' timing up to 9500 rpm and then it increased to 26.5' up to 10000 rpm. Then 10000 rpm it started to decrease the timing at a liner rate up to 12000 rpm to 15.5' At 12000 rpm to 13000 rpm it decreased the timing at a liner rate to 4' and then stayed there. My money says they did this to keep the pipe temp up because the speed of sound is faster in hotter gases and this changes the tune of the pipe and increases your power band. CO

Hey, i’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Your behaviours remind me a lot of myself a few years ago. In my free time, i’ve built a lot of things (motorcycles, scooters etc.). Just like you, i started collecting a lot of parts and other stuff in my garage, and it became just more and more. One day, i decided it had gone to far, and cleaned up the whole garage. I cleaned all my tools, sorted everything in its own catagory, sold and trew out all the old stuff that i wouldn’t need in the next few months, fixed all small things that bothered me. All by all, just made it absolutely perfect, like in authistic ways. What i’ve noticed, is that i can focus much better on my work and projects and i could think a lot clearer and better. And all the frustration of having to look for things or having to work around stuff just fanished, and it made me enjoy my time in the garage a lot more. I know it might sound a bit typical, but i suggest you do the same with your garage. Sure, it takes some time. But it will be won back afterwards. Just cleaning up when your done for the day takes 15 minutes, and you will come in to the garage the next day feeling fresh, and you can just start working on your project. If you read this, please think about it for a sec. I think it would be helpfull for you, and i think you’ll have a lot more pleasure in your work. By the way, thanks for all the beautifull video’s. I’ve learned a lot from you, and i don’t think i would have had the dream job i have today if you didn’t fire up my enthousiasm for 2 strokes. Keep it up.

A 2 stroke exhaust is essentially a pulsejet (with external combustion), they're easy to make and you can try a few designs til it runs at the resonance you want for the bike, then design an exhaust with the corresponding size ratios.

I stumbled across your channel like a week ago and I've now watched so many of your videos lol. I love 2t's, owned many, but I have zero knowledge on how to make more power with them except expansion chambers and fueling.....but something I do know about tuning....if you make a change, and it behaves poorly, you shouldn't go and change something else before reverting that initial change, same with making more than one change at a time, because then you're not focusing on what does or doesn't work, because there's been multiple things changed and can't pinpoint what change did or didn't improve anything. Also highly recommend getting either a notebook or a spreadsheet on your PC/Mac/phone so that you know exactly what changes you're making, what does or doesn't work, and what HP/TQ you're making at what fueling, exhaust, ignition ECT.... that way you can look at what's working and or, revert back and go in a different direction from that earlier point if necessary. Hope that helps 😅 Edit: I also just thought, you're not running anything to read your air/fuel ratio are you? Like a sniffer. And also, you don't try different expansion chambers/lengths/diameters that often.... again, I have almost zero knowledge, but would it not be beneficial to know exactly that your fuel/air ratio is correct so to try something else instead of "assuming" it's always the fueling? IDK, just throwing things out there in hopes to help 😅 Regardless, keep it up, I know you'll get it to where you want it, hopefully sooner than later 👌 2nd edit: ah ha! I was right! It was the exhaust this entire time! 😅 But make a new exhaust.... and run it BEFORE changing anything else, don't change more than 1 thing at a time so you know what's working lol. Also, after the exhaust.... I'm not sure about that entire ignition system, but that's for a later investigation, exhaust now 👌👌

Hey Alex I see it as a progress. What you are explaining makes sense to me. I did a similar thing with my most recent Pipes when I increased my RGV from 250cc to 300cc. I also learned that simulation software can deceive you if you input "optimistic" Data. I lost power simply because I got the peak power target wrong. When I did a set of successful pipes using MOTA to raise peak RPM. Once I got a good SIM of my engine, I had to keep juggling the pipe dims/timing/compression etc until I got realistic rpm outputs. (it did not give false readings just theoretical outputs way above the physical limits of my engine) After all of that, the pipes did work and the SIM Data lined up with my real world Dyno results. Onward and Upward Pete

Re. The small bore stinger tests. I didn't see the rear wheel move, how were you measuring power? Also, not filling the cylinder is usually a mis match of the reflected wave from the expansion chamber. Have you tried to cut the expansion chamber in half and added a collar section to make the volume greater? If you have to advance the timing (that much) to make power, then you are trying to match a reflected wave that is arriving too early. If you increase the expansion chamer volume. the wave will arrive later when the piston is closer to TDC = efficient combustion. OK, saw the whole video now. Thumbs up.

If you want to give your neighbors a "solid kindness" I would suggest getting a length of " EAR blanket" and putting it over the Dyno..Your neighbors will probably give you a nice XMAS present for this "kindness"!!..👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸

It is pretty amazing to think about how high performance 2-stroke engines rely on pressure waves or (sound) to reach their peak performance. With a tuned pipe you are basically controlling how sound interacts with the divergent and convergent areas of the exhaust to create a gain in efficiency. To reach the highest limits of 2-stroke engine performance it's like you need to be a motorcycle mechanic, mechanical engineer and a fluid dynamics engineer all mixed together :) lolol

The blowdown velocity will not continue as the piston drops to BDC so purging due to gas velocity becomes minimal. You are better off making the exhaust larger and letting the transfer ports do the scavenging. There is a balance point where gas velocity in the exhaust does exist and can draw on the transfers and reeds at BDC, but you are better off like jetting, starting with a big exhaust port and transfer entry and working down.

I really hope you’re right! Good luck I love watching this develop, but we all need a eureka episode soon! I know you can do it!!!!! Iv literally just built a new track bike for next season, and the small things would get me down for days! And I mean very small compared to your build. Your a good motivation for people like us😊

Trying new designs with the hope to beat the performance of the big factories is a formidable task. I would love to see the bike competing in 50cc racing at the best engine performance results already attained. I love two strokes but realize you can spend a huge amount of time and money when you're starting with a blank sheet. I think that using a design similar to two stroke diesel engines with valves could control filling and mixture better than the complex dynamics of two stroke porting and chambers. No doubt I'll have people attacking me for saying these things but for me the Bonneville attempt was what I enjoyed and miss the real world application of these engines rather than an endless search for power .

Maybe the big pipe is good match for supercharger. Might be worthwhile doing the flow simulations with that in mind

Thanks for clearing that pipe situation. In my brain it has always looked weird. I once modified an existing pipe on a Piaggio h2o -engine, where I took a LeoVince Handmade S and first shortened the start of the pipe. I noticed a markable lift at low/midrange. Then I cut the back open, removed the J-looking bent stinger that was inside, lengthened the "back cone" and flipped the stinger to the outside of the pipe. It revved like crazy without the silencer on one test run. I was running a 70cc Hebo Manston Replica with large ports that didn't match the original case halves at all. Managed to destroy two original belts and I wasn't even at the peak horsepower yet, doing around 100 km/h on a Gilera DNA. The project ultimately ended as I ordered a belt that was supposed to fit, but was for the NRG/Runner with shorter variator case. I rode it a few times and now the bike has sat in boxes for almost 15 years. I ported the casings to match the Hebo cylinder but then sold it to some youngster who destroyed it very quickly. Though it could have been because I widened the exhaust port slightly, but I'd think it wasn't that aggressive, possibly more likely to have been an oiling issue if he didn't crank up the oil pump or add oil to the gasoline. In the back of my mind there has been a voice telling me I have to get it back running some day, with crazy power. Just a while ago I spotted one project DNA for a few hundred euros but it was far away and I don't have the space...

100kmh is achivable with stock piagio cilynder, my runner went 120kmh with a dr evo 70cc at 12k rpm,no gear ratio change. the belt would run out of the varioyit was above it on the half pully . matched case and a arow extreme exhaust . now im bulding it but its more ported and it will get a c16 pipe of my stalker, il come back with the resault

@@robivlahov I know. I achieved about 105 km/h (to the original digital speedo) with just the unmodded LeoVince and a Malossi Multivar 2000 (which has just more agressive acceleration that raises the initial RPM higher and isn't as linear as the original). The funny part is that DNA originally came with a restricted 17,5 mm Dellorto PHVA. So what I did was a rejet (I think it had a 75 main, originally 56 IIRC). Also a slight mod to the air box to allow more air in but to also keep the airflow as similar as possible for proper resonating function. That really made it sound throatier but also way more silent than the original exhaust with probably damaged cat (from crappy oil that my dad bought me, that even scored the piston). I remember one night when my friend took it for a test ride and I standed on the side of the road for a long time. Then I heard something coming back, but I was sure that it was not my DNA. It sounded much bigger. When he ran past me I was so happy with the sound it made. Never heard a better sounding 50cc that can achieve 100 km/h. Very under the radar. - I think I ran a 105 main jet with the Hebo and I think I cranked the oil pump up a bit. But memories are faint after the exhaust modding. I did run it with a Jasil Evolution N.G. HPC crank, as one the original bearings were super loose on the crank and I managed to damage the bores on the original crank as well, after one time the variator came loose. I really loved the 2 part head on the Manston Replica. And I think I paid about 175€ for it back in like 2006. It had to be one of the best bang for buck.
