For CAL 2, There is better strat now, you can always put fire person middle at the start of mechanic so they don't have to move, forcing the mechanic to always be CLOCKWISE, it's a lot easier to resolve this way in PF

Classical Concepts 2 with the switch up was prob the hardest mech for me to visualize. Caloric Theory 1&2 with the Echo Papan strats make it really easy. Aether Group 3 Pangenesis strat also make Pangenesis much easier. But I couldn't consistently figure out the switch up that happens during Classical 2 (cause I suck at these types of mechs). The explanation in this vid I don't really get as well (I'm sure it's good for other people but it's just not clicking with me). But if you just focus on where the blue hexagons would be on your reverse column you can apply the following: + If your initial spots (before the switch) is a vertical line, you go to where your reverse column's blue hexagon would be and swap spots with your tether partner. So if you were at north vertical, when you go to reverse column you would now be south vertical of the blue hexagon. +If your initial spots (before the switch) is a horizontal line, you go to where your reverse column's blue hexagon would be and swap spots with your tether partner. So if you were left horizontal, when you go to reverse column you would now be right horizontal of the blue hexagon. +If your initial spots (before the switch) is L-shaped, you go to where your reverse column's blue hexagon would be and the person that was either north or south of their initial blue hexagon would now be opposite on the reverse column's blue hexagon, while the person that was either left or right of their initial blue hexagon would now be opposite on the reverse column's blue hexagon. Worked like a charm for me every time. And you don't have to visualize swapping the red and yellow shapes in your head nor use the middle two shapes to find your spot like this video suggests which doesn't make sense to me. In summary, you just have to 1: Know where the blue hexagon would be in YOUR reverse column and 2: Reverse your initial tether spots. (i.e. Initial north of blue hexagon would become south of reverse column's blue hexagon, etc.)

The easiest way to look at this is to understand point symmetry. Imagine a giant needle in the middle of the arena, and a fixed-length thread binding you to it as you stand in your starting position. Your ending position is where you would end up if you headed straight for the needle, and kept walking in the same direction as far as the thread will allow you to. Count the steps of your character if it helps you, I guess..

At 13:24 you say the long debuff will jump in the South tower, but what if it's the same color as the long debuff? Shouldn't the long debuff jumping in from 2nd tower sets look where the opposite tower is?

This doesn't particularly explain how to solve Classical Concepts, I feel - i.e. how to identify that your shape isn't someone else's. My understanding is that the process of solving is "how many of your assigned shape (squares/triangles) are cardinally adjacent to your blue? If 1, solved, just block that. If 2, block the square or triangle that is NOT adjacent to someone else's blue" It seems the logic of the layout should always allow this flowchart. For example, if youre assigned triangle, and there are 2 adjacent to your blue, one of those would be guaranteed to be the only triangle available for a different pair of raid members

Something Rin forgot to mention are what the stack numbers are for. Aside from taking those towers, you also need to reduce the stack count of every player to 0 and you can only accomplish that by always having people stack with someone who are exactly 1 number above or below them. You are supposed to touch the player you are taking the tower with to merge your numbers. The result or the merge will be your average rounded down (if 1 and 2 stack, both end with 1. if 0 and 1 stack, both end with 0). If you swap the 2 healers in that example, you won't do the number stacks correctly.

The overall distance travelled is what contributes to your stacks. I think a good way to think of that mechanic is a turn based RPG. You get one “turn” to move to the correct tile otherwise your stacks will overcap

  • @icytease

ty for the POV and initial mech explanations. Even if PF using mostly alternate strats this time around, you did have huge impact! For example, in hot potato (caloric2), it seems more popular to finish passing around the ring clockwise, and then that last non-middle person solos final 2 moves without passing. They dodge somewhere, then dodge again, and mechanic ends. So middle pass and the 1/7 chance counterclockwise scenario might not be necessary, and that middle person can just bing chillin the whole time. Rewatched a bunch for an extra way to solve to better understand gotchas ^_^ Also your classical2 dodges are godlike lol

I might have(or forgot to) say it before, but your guides - while being good - sometimes sound way too overcomplicated. Like you try to explain the mechanic so deeply that people lose track of what they are supposed to do. Might wanna rephrase things or change how you introduce things. So like to show you what I'm hinting at - I came here for caloric specififcally and: 1) when you explained the concept of the mechanic my brain started to overheat already - might wanna shorten that to "you will get fire(pair) and aero(donut) debuffs with some 2-5 extra words 2) explain the mech first and after that mention the possible(or not)fixed positions - should help to focus people on the primary topic that is the mechanic itself 3) the possible pattern section is lovely - but would be even better if it would be shown per debuff explanation(like "fire debuff works this way: possible pattern examples"; "aero works this way: possible pattern examples" Yes I'm criticizing this guide but only because it could be better - while your strats are good some people will find them overcomplicated due to how they are introduced

15:00 Okay but why move at all? The pattern is just rotating 180 degrees, so if you look away from the boss you can see the true pattern right in front of you. Just find your position in the real pattern and go there from the start. No dangerous movement across the arena that has to be synchronized with your partner. No finding 2 different positions. No macro. No difficulty getting casts off. Just turn around and look.

Phase 1s are usually designed to be simple to understand mechanics but execution heavy with tighter dps checks. Phase 2s are usually puzzles with more lenient dps checks (sometimes tougher mit/healer checks too but this is not consistent). The thing with puzzle mechanics is that once strats are out, they just seem much easier because it's like having all the answers to a test. Whereas execution heavy mechanics are like having ONLY final answers to a test, but you need to show all the working.
