I always just drill and tap the end of the cam then pull the cam gear and press it back on with the bolt. Saves a boatload of time and no risk dropping a tappet.

Great video just bought 1 ton Dooley, 2002 Dodge with a VP 44 and a NV5600 . I’m thinking about p pumping it. For the start of a sled pulling truck.

The only way I tolerate driving a 13mm p is with the progressive throttle linkage I built that made a whole lot of pedal travel barely move the pump fuel lever until about half pedal then it ramped up to full. The 13 throwing 200hp of fuel at every pothole is incredibly annoying to drive. It is hard to beat FireWire but hey when the emp goes off that p pump will never know it. 😊

I know you prefer common rail - but I have a 24 that I put in my 08 f350 ( I know should have done comon). That being said leave the vp or should I p pump it? Thanks !

Quick question. Been trying to source the wooden dowels to do a cam swap on my common rail and was wondering where you got yours. I found some on amazon and just wanted to make sure they work before pulling the trigger. Would hate for something to happen while pulling the cam out before being able to put in the catch tray for the tappets.

Hey Josh have you ever tried just pulling the gear off the cam? I found that the cal van 38000 3 jaw ratcheting puller worked great pulling the cam gear off with just a little grinding on the front side of each leg. That way I’m not messing with cam when it’s gonna be reused for resealing the timing cover or replacing timing cover, even pulled it off on my friends 12v powered 75 ford with the radiator still in the truck👌🏻 thank you for some more poverty pump content😂

That sounds like a good way to do it also, main thing going back together is gotta mark the back side of the gear so I can see the gear tooth to put it at correct timing, and also gear has to be hot enough to just slide back on with no hammering I get it to about 330 degrees and keep handing down to a minimum since it gets pretty hot in the welding gloves😬
