P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval On Their Latest Album, Collaborations, And His Own Day In San Diego

I had the chance to talk with the P.O.D. frontman, Sonny Sandoval. The band dropped a new record in May and has some summer festival shows coming up this year.
Their album Veritas came out a couple of months ago, a heavier side of the band. Plus, it includes a few collaborations. Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinger, and Cove Reber. “It’s never planned, but we love bringing in people.” He went onto say “It just worked out perfectly for us.” as far as bringing in some outside talent.
When asked if this was their pandemic record, he said. “We started, but ya know, there was so much chaos and we knew at some point we had to write a record. And I think as we started to wind down with the whole pandemic, the record company was like, what’s up, boys?”
We also talked about the San Diago Day that he celebrated recently. “Yeah, man, I don’t know what they were thinking. But it’s pretty humbling” He went on “It’s a beautiful thing to be recognized by, ya know, to me, the greatest city in the world.”
I also asked him about any influences he might have from Detroit. His answer wasn’t wrong, per se, but they’re not from the “D”.
