P&O ARVIA. 5 GOOD & 5 BAD things you NEED to know about this cruise ship.

Five good things, & five bad things about P&O's Arvia cruise ship, that you need to know before booking your holiday. What's the food like? Is it true that you have to wait for hours to get a seat for dinner? Is it absolutely jam packed everywhere? Are the days at sea boring? What is there to do in the evenings? Why should I pay extra for some restaurants, when others are free? Are some of the balconies on deck 8 overlooked? All these questions and more will be answered in this video, and the information is also relevant to P&O Iona, and, to some extent, also to P&O's other ships, Britannia, Azura, Ventura, Aurora and Arcadia. Captain Chris brings you this travel blog with hacks and tips for travellers, so you know what to expect on your cruise.

Good video, I am on Arvia in April 24 and you have addressed a few things I considered. Since I am traveling alone I hope the crowding in the bars etc won't be as big as issue. The restaurants however may be a problem as I'm sure it will be harder to get a solo position. But I will survive!

Thank you for your kind comment. There are solo traveller meet ups, if you wish to attend them. Look out for them in your daily newsletter when on board. You can request a table to yourself, if you wish to dine alone, or you can share a larger table with others, which would probably mean less waiting. Enjoy your cruise.

Two things that annoyed me were 1. When the sea got a bit rough the hangers in the wardrobes banged against the back and sounded like a machine gun 2. I don’t understand why they didn’t have trays in the buffet. Apart from those two minor things, she is an amazing ship.

Yes, you're right about the empty hangers, and good point about the buffet, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for your comment. Enjoy your next holiday.

I think passenger capacity should be limited to 3,000 max for passenger comfort.

Thank you for your comment. There are plenty of smaller ships across many different cruise lines but, whatever the capacity, the cruise lines always want them full. Enjoy your next cruise.

You mentioned how good the entertainment was in the main theatre. Unfortunately they repeat the resident company shows on consecutive nights, meaning you get half as many shows as you'd get on the smaller ships. A huge negative for us. Didn't help when we encountered this on Iona, the only other shows they put on were a dreadful comedian telling jokes that were old in the 70s and two nights of a sub-bar vocalist who could possibly have worked ok in the corner of a bar, but he didn't have the chops to work the main theatre. Regarding kids, it was rammed with the noisy buggers racing along the corridors at all hours of the day and night. The anonymity afforded by the ship's size seemed to encourage a disproportionate amount of antisocial behaviour from kids and adults. Neither are ships we plan to return to.

I was under the impression our luggage was taken to the airport on the way back and never saw it again until you landed???? Same as the way out but in reverse.

Yes, that's right if you're getting flown home. If you're sailing back to Southampton, you can carry your own luggage off, to save yourself having to go through the hassle of finding it again once ashore. Thank you for your question. Enjoy your cruise.

The extra cost food comes at a small supplement with P&O. I have just got back from an MSC cruise, and their extra cost restaurants were much more expensive! More videos on that to follow.

Make sure you dont travel by Maleth Aero to the ship. Its horrendous. Hours and hours late nearly every tripout to the ship in the Caribbean and back. Planes are not the best, no in flight entertainment. No duty free. Meals inedible. Ripped seats and some taped up as damaged. One had a disgusting stain on the seat. Yuk. Toilets out of order and dirty. Lots of complaints but the cruise line wont accept responsibilty.

@@sandraford3788 not necessarily, its not been confirmed. The Caribbean season finishes end of March but people are now saying Maleth is taking them to Malta to join the P&O ships doing the Med season. So some people are not booking with them as they dont want to fly with Maleth, they are booking with other cruise lines.
