Although on September 11th the Twin Towers fell, this largely New York City-inspired album won the Mercury Prize later that day. This is a wonderful coincidence that serves as an example of how the transient is immortalized through great art.

Another fun fact, PJ Harvey wasn't able to go to the Mercury Prize Award ceremony because she was in Washington D.C. the same day, and she witnessed American Airlines Flight 77 crash into the Pentagon from her hotel room window. That's just horrific and traumatising.

@@izetyusein3323 I want to make clear, just in case you misinterpreted me, that my intention was not to trivialize the September 11 attacks. I meant that it is "wonderful" that the album that was a tribute to New York was the album that won the award.

We were meant to see PJ in LA the following week as part of the tour and she did make it. How she must have been feeling witnessing the Twin Towers disaster from her hotel room. Incredible.
