Ive had this P51 for years now lol almost since it came out. I still use it and like it alot. The P51s in general are honestly great

The thing I’ve really struggled with in this aircraft (and the other “D” variants) is that the 50 caliber belts all seem to struggle finishing off an enemy. You’ll want to dump a ton of rounds or get a pilot kill in most cases as most enemy aircraft have like an 85% chance of putting out a fire at least in my case. And like Tankenstein said, this thing is very flammable and really really struggles to put out fires. Japanese aircraft literally have a higher chance of putting out a fire even though they are made of paper

These are american 12.7mms, they aren't godo as your main armament past like 3.0. (except jets)

@@dennizkucuk835 Well, unlocking stealth belts is extra painful because of how long they take to kill. Long time to kill might be ok in ARB but it's agonizing in AAB.

Use ground belts and aim for the engine, pilot, or fuel

A few years ago the D-5 gave me such a bad experience (was flying like a bus, with no stability) on the P-51 that didn't even touched one till i unlocked the H variant. I even retired my 1st premium plane i ever brought in the game (back in 2013); the British Mustang Mk 1A. Thought the truth is that the Mk1 had way too many changes at that point, and I no longer needed it.

i have to disagree with you there. the d20 is really one of the worst p-51, as it has a weak engine so it takes an eternity to climb and you will get outclimbed by everyone. you don't retain your speed very well because of this weak engine and getting to high speed also takes a while. it is really one of the worst p-51d variants. if you want a p-51 premium, wait for the p-51d-10 that sometimes goes on sale for GE, which is far, far better

What’s the difference between the d10 d20 and d30? I thought higher numbers mean stronger engine

@@Austrium1483 the frame and the engine. the d-10 has a worse frame (a few less g's to pull and a little lower ripping speed), the d-20 has the worse engine but the better frame and the d-30 has best of both. I'd personally go always for the better engine because the difference of the airframe ist that large

I tried the 20D-NA, and, the climb isn't great, the speed is okay at any level, the turn can be okay at high speeds, but overall this thing gets shredded, it isn't good, it's good in a skilled pilot's hand, but given the current state of the game at 4.3: Most players will choose the best climb rate out of their aircraft, this thing, this thing cannot, and people will go at you at any level, Fw 190's just shreds you up like no tomorrow if you don't maintain your speed, so yeah, overall..... not a great aircraft, I absolutely discourage you to take it, play a spitfire, C.205 or even get a premium Yak 3 or even anything else but this aircraft.

@@liamboyle9199 As a skilled D-20 user I agree with this. Im gonna get my hands on a D-10 as soon it goes on sale. I don’t think the D-20 is that bad though as it does have some advantages over the D-10 and D-5. You basically get the D-30’s airframe with a lower BR for a mediocre engine.

Buddy bought this. Leveled up his tree sort of. Got to regular tech tree mustangs and his performance shot up. This plane took a dive at some point. Nerfed to all get out.

I just bought this yesterday for £12.50 due to the summer sale and I can now say that you can now mix and match them I like using for ground strike 6hvar rockets and the two bombs

I love this thing, better than the D5, lower BR than the D30, you can't even buy the D10 anymore, and that fatty SL mod mmm. Had it aced for a long time and it's made me more SL than my A5C made grinding all of China. It's my go-to airspawn in ground RB too, doesn't compress when you dive in fast for a low drop, makes plopping the 2x 1000's with precision very easy.

I bought it yesterday. I haven't had many matches where I got outclimbed, although it climbs not that well. It's only real weakness is the lacking power of the .50 cals. Most aircraft of this Br which are armed with cannons will easily shred more durable planes than this, while you will get lots of assists. I enjoy flying it, and I think it's not as bad as many portray it, but I would still only pick it up when it is on sale, because for 15 $ you get 2000 GE, some premium time and the plane, on the other hand I wouldn't recommend to buy it for the full price, because it has some notable weaknesses and can only grind to rank 5.

Id also like to add that ive had trouble aiming the guns and getting them where i want them to be. This may just be an issue because i play on controller but still something to be mindful of.

The D20 is available in the Israel truck tree and also the Swedish tech tree as the J26.

Excellent review mate! Glad you didn't devolve into the usual myth of "BnZ only with American planes" Because its simply not true lol. Just one thing. The hidden Premium D10 and regular D5 versions can actually carry the mixed load of rockets and bombs. However the D5 takes a slight performance hit for that capability. The D10 however does not take a performance hit at all. It has D20 performance with D5 loadouts. It's nuts! The pack included the same stuff for the same price too. 2K eagles, premium time, and the plane for 30$.

I love it and I have had it for a long time.

This was my first premium since 2016. It's not as good as the other mustangs but if you're patient with sideclimbing, you can definitely make up for its subpar engine performance. Ive managed to keep a good K/D ratio with this thing even before the Air Battle revamp where they added bots for us to shoot down in the middle of the map. However, if the D10 goes on sale, I would recommend that over this. Other than that, the D20 is not as bad as people make it out to be.

i bought the D-20 many years ago and love it to death but to use it properly you have to spend a lot of time just learning it, I catch people in turn fights with the D20 because they underestimate the ability all the 51s have

Damned decent review but some characteristics are worth mentioning. This thing got bumped down to 4.0 so it’s even better. The .50 cals are superb and, though they lack some single-hit firepower, they have exceptional ballistics and I get frequent pilot snipes and fires. It’s a 500+ mph dive-capable aircraft with excellent energy retention and high-speed flight characteristics. Don’t be potatoes and dogfight with this. It’s a high speed energy fighter and BnZ specialist. It also has excellent high altitude performance thanks to its two-stage supercharger and Merlin V12.

Most american low tier preiums like the M8 LAC and P-51 D-20 are available at the Chinese tech tree for free?

It's been awhile since I've flown this out, but it was one of the first US premium aircraft I got. Hated it then, still hate it now. This thing tarnished my view of US aircraft for a LONG time. Honestly the whole Rank IV section is like a black hole to me. Love the early US aircraft, especially the Hellcat and Corsairs, and I love US jets, but MAN the various non-naval rank IV US props are rough for me. I think the P-51H is supposed to be really good, but I haven't really touched it. Doesn't help that it certainly feels like US teams in that section are dogshit to boot.

I dont like usa aircraft in general not because of the performance, the performance is duable for me. Its just that the wing mounted guns are awkward as hell to aim. P38s dont really have this issue, the only ones is actually enjoy flying😅. I play germany and ussr.

I like the reviews most of the time but this P-51 is just not it(same for the d-5), it's rudder is horrendous in most cases making aiming and defensive flying very difficult, .50s are very inconsistent either they shred or a Yak-3 takes 300 rounds, it also has no survivability which you touched on. The only thing going for it in my experience is the CAS and the Speed other than that I would never play this thing, all the other 4.3 planes for different nations destroy this thing.

I bought it last night and I am having such a bad time with this airplane 🥴 I really thought it was pretty efficient but I guess not or maybe I need to practice more and learning to fly it

This plane has an amazing SL modifier that makes it a great money printer. You'll often play it and wonder later how did you make that much SL. Like with most USA planes you better have the need for SPEED!

I didnt even realize premium planes gave more SL. I never bought one because I assumed it would be the same as other planes. Just bought one. Played my first match and made almost 40k with only one kill. Vs 12k with like 3 or 4 kills on a normal plane with a premium account

Oh. I've also been playing Air Sim a lot since I have a nice HOTAS setup and VR that I normally use for DCS and IL2. Got 120k from one match earlier, and I wasn't doing to great

this thing is useless in air rb, everytime you get outclimbed instantly or your team is all dead once you finally gain a decent altitude.... only thing going for it the speed you cant even rely on most of the times

@@Damian-03x3 i would not say anything it's one of the best premium's lol the only good thing is the guns and the performance is not stellar it got buffed a lot of times and yet still don't really poses a treat at that br, the american/British 20mm mustangs are not bad by any means i actually enjoy flying them and they're decent for BnZ but they just can't hold energy well enough, i literally never had trouble to kill them even when they started with a advantage

The rudder is an issue that I also noticed. Not so terrible where I can't fly it, but it's noticeable in some instances.

P51 c10 is better in every way, it is lighter, faster on the deck and can dogfight, bit this ? Oh boy, you are gonna get your ass kick if you try to evan put that thing up to 15° angle to get back up

every time i shoot an enemy with the 50s they either shrug it off and dont care or light on fire but put it out instantly. i feel like you might as well have 7.7s

The performance is so bad on this plane that it should be 3.7
