    Beautiful Gary, so hard to find fault in your building and so much to praise! Your models tend to look good on closeup which is a hard test and many of your piers do not pass it! But they are happy so what the heck!? I did have a tech question but can’t find it right now………bum! Bob England

    Great build I have this kit and I am glad that you made a video showing us the problems that you had so we can be on the lookout for them and be prepared. It looks great and I can’t wait to start mine thank you.

    It looks great when its done but the nose gear is a bit of a pain. The surface finish is awesome though. I though it would get lost in paint and varnish but it didn't.

    I noticed you found the gap in the forward fuselage when closing it up. Plasmo did a video on this kit as well. He showed a couple of places where the parts didn’t fit flush. One was in the front where he had to grind down the ejector pin circle and deepen a mounting pin mating hole. This looks great. I have the kit and want to build the same marking s heme.

    I really wish companies gave as standard canopy mask sets. Especially for 1/48 and above scales and there's no reason not to include 1/72 kits either. Even if it added a couple of extra quid onto the cost of a kit to cover manufacturing costs and that's probably more than it would cost them to be produced

  • @garys_stuff

    @garys_stuff

    Absolutely - would be a real selling point. Maybe might make starter sets look to complex for the new model maker, but otherwise it would be really good - especially for things like the Beaufort or the He111 where there is glass everywhere!

    I agree 100%. Or at least provide two options, one kit which comes with masks, costing a bit more, and another without masks for those who don't need them. Especially Eduard masks bought separately are overpriced, that's why buying a Profipack usually makes sence.

    Nice build, looks good - and that colour scheme is the one I've chosen too! Funnily enough I was toying with the idea of an "undercarriage up" model as I quite like the lines of the P-39 and having listened to your comments, you may have made my mind up for me. Thanks for a great build 👍

    Gary gotta have a stern talk to you about your zealous use of glue mate. One thing to say…. Tamiya super thin is all you need.

  • @garys_stuff

    @garys_stuff

    Жыл бұрын

    I use Extra Thin a lot, but there are times when I like the grab of a conventional glue, especially where it won't be seen (provided I haven't bogged it up). Normally for wings I'll use a little blob of Contacta at the locator pins, tape it up then extra thin around the seam, likewise normally for fuselages. From time to time the glue comes out a bit sharpish...

    You have the patience of a Saint Gary. Really not for me but thanks for sharing. I don't mind a bit of fiddling round to get things looking OK but if I'm honest I would struggle. Quick question, when can we expect the reveal of the paint job on the Spitfire? I know it's work in progress but really looking forward to it. Keep it going my friend. You truly are giving many of us inspiration I think.

    Hi Gary. Its very detailed for 1/72. I'm impressed by the weights for the tricycle landing gear. Strangly enough just a few days ago I nearly threw away the old ball bearings I'd taken out of the bike then I thought thay'd come in for nose weights for model aeroplanes. I seem to remember that elastic bands were the chosen method of holding the parts together while the glue cures. What is the clamp/stand you're using, the one with the wing nuts? I'm impressed by your "weathering". Have you done a vid on that?

  • @garys_stuff

    It might be, but then you've got the delicate nose legs hanging about under the fuse while you're building other things. I broke the tiny one on the Meteor F.8 1:72 doing just that! Guess you just have to be a lot more careful that I am!

    You mentioned airbrushes recently. I guess I am an outlier. After experimenting with expensive dual action airbrushes which are time consuming to clean, I have reverted for the second, and probably final time to exclusively using an easy to maintain, single action, Passche H airbrush with a #1 nozzle. For most modelers, it will do 90% of what an expensive airbrush will do, including fine detail work. It all relates to how much you open the nozzle and air pressure you set. I have created award winning models with the Passche H, and I really believe expensive airbrushes are a status thing with many modelers, not unlike average people who own expensive sports cars. I may receive some blowback for this, but that would be nothing new. Best of luck.

    That's really interesting. Looking online it is one step up from the very cheap and cheerful thing I use - a Timbertech - without going to crazy money. I guess it could also be a function of the compressor - one with a reservoir tank is probably better than one without, as I'm assuming it will be a more constant pressure delivered.

    One thing I notice that glue will not work with paint as mention in the instruction plans I went throght that as well the glue bottle will get paint on the tip this is when I started many years ago I made lots of mistakes I had to throw the bottle out because the paint affected the build and glue many people on utube do the same thing that why the part will fall off or won't set up right to get a good bond make that a strong bond itsomething I learn from it now I glue the parts and let them dry before I paint the parts it can be very frustrating I know you may have not enought time on utude they do look good after there done especially the langing gear that can be problem matic

    Think arma over engineer their kits and the nose landing gear is a prime example. We all want nice kits but not over fiddly, lose 2 marks for that 8/10!!!
