I had a postie deliver something that was signature required. He just threw it at my door, then chucked a piss in my garden. When AusPost got the video I had, oh they told me he'd be talked to, and his entire regional department be trained better. Trained? Not to piss in someones yard? I have no faith.

Don´t consider them to be someone. While wearing branded clothes and driving big cars, they sleep on dirty old newspapers and heating up their livingroom with candles. Big TV on the wall, running on batteries, which are loaded at the beginning of the month, when the income support is on the bank account. And whenever the chance is, they steal everything...

This is so weird. Porch piracy is not even a thing in my mother country. Delivery companies ask for your phone number and tell you when exactly your package would arrive. If you're not home, they don't deliver it and schedule it again for another time (or just tell you to pick it up from the warehouse). In some cases, they'd leave it with your neighbor and just tell you where it is. When they do deliver it, they usually require a signature from the recipient and/or a photo as proof that it was delivered. Simple as.

these are probably countries that have the frequency very very high that they don't have time to do that. my country is not, they always at least "entrust" the package to a neighbor, a dorm mate, or a family member. if there are nobody at the location, they will come back for a second time the next day.

@@bmo3778 That should be incentive to make sure deliveries are safe. Not fuck customers over by literally leaving packages in the street where anyone can just grab them. Even food deliveries do better than these guys. And that too is very very common, even long before online shopping. I think the real reason is just profit. They cut costs and make more deliveries per van if they simply remove all the mechanisms for package safety. Now the paradoxical thing is: why do customers just accept it as if it were normal?

@@cosmicanomaly3416 I don't know about the rest of the south...but that won't fly in Georgia. The law in Georgia states (O.C.G.A. 16-3-21(a)) “A person is justified in threatening or using force against another when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such other’s imminent use of unlawful force; however…a person is justified in using force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury to himself or herself or a third person or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.” Stealing something from a porch is not a forcible felony. A forcible felony involves threats of physical force or violence. You can only use deadly force if *entry* is made in a “violent and tumultuous manner” and you “reasonably believe" that the entry is for the purpose of assaulting or offering personal violence to any person in your home.” Also, you can use the force against someone who a non household resident who has forcibly entered and you had reason to believe there was a forcible entry *or* you reasonably believed that the person who is coming into your house is going to commit a felony AND the force is necessary to prevent the felony. Stealing from your front porch is not entering your house, forcibly or otherwise. You can defend yourself and your property with as much force as is necessary to defend yourself and your property, but no more. You cannot take revenge or exact justice on the wrongdoer. It is not your job to punish the thief: that is the job of law enforcement. It is against the law for you to exert more force than is necessary. You can grab the package back from the package thief, you can shove him away from your package, but you cannot shoot a gun at him. When you do, you have raised the stakes and you become the aggressor according to the law. Again...can't speak for other states in the south but that how Georgia do.

We could not physically deliver all of our stops if we had to wait to recieve a signature or *especially* call 200 people. I think people in the USA order a LOT more packages than other countries because there's a lot of houses that get something every single day or even multiple packages every day. In fact, there's regulars on my route that I'll be shocked when they don't recieve something for the day

I don't understand why this is even a thing... in my country, the packages delivered by the post office are left on the post office, you get a small paper to your mailbox to go pick it up. The packages delivered by delivery companies (couriers) are delivered to you against a signature - they call you / send an email upfront to notify you will get a package tomorrow; so you can either be home (or arrange someone to be there, or tell your neighbour to get it for you...) or you can schedule a different delivery date. Also, when it is a thing that I ordered myself (i.e. it's not something that somebody sends me without my prior knowledge), I (and most people I know) fill the delivery address to be in my office, not my home, where I am usually not...

  • @damien5442

Delivery companies in the UK tend to work a bit different from this, if you are not in they either choose to leave it with a next door neighbour and leave your a little notification card to tell you which neighbour they left it with or they sent it back to the depot, again leaving you a notification card telling you to arrange a new delivery date or to pick the parcel up from the address written on the card.

I'm disabled with chronic illness, so I'm bedridden a lot of the time, or just feeling awful. I used to put notes out every day, depending on how I was feeling, whether to leave a parcel in my parcel box, but the Royal Mail postie suggested that to save me the hassle, I could just put up a permanent sign on the front door, telling them to just leave ALL packages in the parcel box, and so that is what they do, barring the odd person, that will knock on the door. It's a good set up, and works very well. In the main, they don't bother to leave a card, with this method. The only thing I don't like, is that, with the Amazon deliveries, they put it down as "left parcel with customer", which is obviously not right. If a parcel dissappears one day, I won't have any proof that it wasn't given to me! I did phone Amazon about this, but they did nothing about it. I think it's probably a technical glitch. For going that extra mile for me ( I get virtually everything via the post), I leave chocolates out for the posties at Christmas, although not last Christmas, due to Covid.

Ahem, i live in the uk as well and have had a lot of parcels left outside. Since covid it has become more frequent, but it has always happened. As for signed parcels, i havent signed for one for over a year... What happens if a signed for parcel goes missing? Whoever it come from will say it was signed for and so had been delivered. You would have to take a case up with the delivery company more and good luck with that! Btw, they leave it on the doorstep because some of them dont get paid for undelivered packages. Whole system is messed up

Superb video upload. Great seeing these thieves getting just what they deserve. Surprises me with just how common this type of theft is. In the UK parcels are seldom left on your door step. If you're not home then your parcel is either left with your neighbour or taken back to the Post Office for collection - the delivery man or woman will leave you a card through your letterbox telling you just where your parcel is.

I have a very nice solution to package thieves. Randomly put some packages in front of houses (of course you have to talk to the house owners) but the package has a homing beacon for a drone strike. If the owner reports that it got stolen, just press the big red button. That'll definitely make people think twice before stealing packages.

The delivery guys are NOT ALLOWED to leave packages on the doorsteps in here (Ireland). They must get signature that they have delivered on the correct address. If you are not home you can arrange an other delivery time or pick it up from the nearest post office if you advise the delivery guy to drop it in there. Or you can give specific delivery instructions to leave it in the shed or to the neighbour or....anything really. But they are not allowed to leave it anywhere where it can be stolen. If it is stolen, because of faulty delivery, the company loses money, not you. Good needs to be delivered TO YOU!
