Hello! I’m a teenager and I would just like to say that I love Brett Cooper. I’m a Christian and I feel like sometimes I’m drowned in a world filled with horrible ideas at my school, I love Brett’s ideas a opinions. Stay positive everyone, Jesus loves you! ❤️ Edit: Thanks for all the love guys! There are so many of us and I know that we are not alone, and it’s nice to know how many people there are going through the same things. For me things like school and stuff are hard because it’s hard to find connections with good people while still wanting to show Jesus to people who don’t know him I think that as long as we can all keep a good mindset and just stay positive and look on the bright side we can do this! Sending love and prayers to everyone!! Us teenage girls gotta stick together, you are not alone with Jesus by your side and you have so many people cheering you on!!! We are all sisters in Christ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I do have to add about the doctors saying “oh just lose weight” in response to all issues. My mums cancer was almost missed because she was indeed blown off because her doctors said “it’ll go away if you just lose weight” well 100lbs lost later, “oops you have stage 4 colon cancer” so that’s a legitimate issue

My mum even survived her stage 4 cancer because she was so healthy when she was diagnosed! Now what happens if you don’t lose the weight? Or your weight loss is unsustainable? There have to be 2 things that go hand in hand: 1) You are a valued human being deserving of love, respect, and a full life just as you are. 2) Weight loss to improve your health and appearance is a positive goal. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. But meeting or not meeting this goal doesn’t change your inherent value from point one. In other words, don’t postpone your life and your dreams waiting to be “thin”. I spent years holding back, believing a full and happy life would be my reward for being thin. Now, I realize I missed out on a full and happy life as some sort of self-punishment for not liking what I saw in the mirror.

As someone who has EDS, POTS, and so much more, I would be thrilled if my doctor told me I could reduce my symptoms though losing weight! Being overweight is known to mimic the symptoms of EDS and POTS as well as be an exacerbating factor for both of those illnesses. Her doctors are more than likely encouraging her to lose weight so they can truly evaluate whether or not she has those illnesses. Worst case scenario 1. she loses weight, her symptoms go away, and it turns out she doesn’t have those things or 2. she loses weight, her doctors evaluate her and diagnose her with EDS and POTS, and her weight loss makes her symptoms drastically better. Either way she wins? Who wouldn’t want their symptoms to get better?! It’s so frustrating to see people like this saying she has “all of these little symptoms” as someone who suffered for 17 years, was finally diagnosed at 19, and fights with these illnesses every day to try and be a functional person. It’s like they memorize these buzzwords to bring up at their doctors appointments so that they can join another “victimization” group.

12 years ago, my family physician told me I needed blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. He then said that because I was "morbidly obese", I should consider bariatric surgery. It was the smack upside my head that I needed. I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, lost 120 pounds and that made EVERYTHING better. Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar were and still are good. I have more energy, fewer aches and pains and likely delayed a back surgery decades. Yeah, it's important to have a positive image of yourself, I always have. It's also important to look at reality that not only does fat kill, it kills your quality of life. If you're overweight and your doctor isn't suggesting you should lose weight, find another doctor!

I've been going to the doctor, working with absolutely everything I can. My diet is better than ever, I move, work out, I have 6 kids lost all the weight from that, thyroid went, gained and lost that, I've gained and lost over 400 pounds in my adult life. Yet I had covid in 2020 and gained 50 pounds in a month. I haven't been able to lose it. My doctor said I'm not eating enough, we've checked hormones, inflammation, thyroid, my blood sugar is great, my cholesterol is great, every test says I'm in great shape yet the pounds don't come off. I actually do have EDS, I go to physical therapy and do the work every day. I don't understand why they WANT to be overweight! I have amazing doctors trying to help and I try what they ask me to do. Yes, I have to learn to love the body I'm in but even if I can't lose weight I still have to keep up and keep healthy. I know I don't look my best but I don't expect any special treatment. I’ve been working on myself to lose weight and I wasn’t really overweight I was 20 pounds more than the weight I should be but I never used medication to help me lose weight. I’ve lost 16 pounds by change of diet and working out I was 180 now 164 my goal is to get back to 140-150 pounds. Ever since I lost those 16 pounds I’ve felt confidence that I haven’t felt in a while ever since I use to be 144.

Idk if anything of value was gained either. I will never support the body positivity movement and it’s good it’s finally dying down. However let’s not pretend Ozempic is suddenly good for you. There are loads of studies that show how damaging it is on your body as a whole, creating potentially life long issues. It also does nothing to change a person’s lifestyle aka it does not promote diet and exercise. People will just gain the weight back the moment they are off Ozempic, although I also hear it’s very hard to come off of it because of how your body reacts once you’re finally off. It’s similar to a withdrawal period since your body has to completely adjust to working without this stimulant. It’s great that we are getting back to less obese country, but we really should encouraging people do it the right way, because it won’t be long before a high rate of ozempic related diseases replace the obesity related ones.

@@lawrencetalbot8346 I see the same issues with bariatric surgery. I have about 15-20 people I know, personally, that have had it done. NONE of them have kept the weight off - several have had the surgery redone & STILL gained weight back. WHY? because they don't change anything about their lifestyle. I have known several that it has actually adversely affected their health - malnutrition, digestive issues, hospital visits, etc...They don't exercise, or eat better. One guy I am related to got out of the hospital & I saw him at McD's several days later! And because they can't eat much in one sitting they should be very intentional about what they are eating but they often aren't. So what little food they can consume is usually sh*t food like soda. Plus, they never actually feel 'better', because they lose the weight so fast, initially, that they are left with tons of skin and still have all kinds of body dysmorphia issues, insecurities, & then other problems like rashes, skin breaking down etc...nothing I ever want to do to myself.

One thing I sure as hell dont want, is to accept it, and I especially dont want anyone else to accept it. Im fat, and yes in public I get the looks, I get ostracized, I get treated differently, and I should. But Im still myself every day, and I dont need any movement to point me out. This world is not built for a 600 lbs man and it shouldnt be, and I sure as hell dont want things to change to make it easier to be 600 lbs. No! Im the one that needs to change. I need to get back where Im comfortable to be in the world. I dont want the world to be comfortable with me this way. Im proud to say Im on the path back now. Ive lost 150lbs so far by changing my diet and getting more active. I have goals and I will meet them. I lost 100lbs, still in chronic pain, and then she started checking me for all kinds of other possible problems. Found some weird something that we're treating now. Doctors will always push weightloss before they'll do any research. And at the end, the problem might be what's causing the person to be overweight. It's a sad reality

100% this. I follow a mostly comedic channel by a lady who occasionally talks about her health struggles, and she tries very hard to lose weight, but it’s those underlying medical issues that have made it impossible for her to do more than just maintain her current state. (I also suspect, not being aware of the toxic fillers that are in so much of our food is another potential issue, based on some of the ad sponsors she has and uses, like that delicious-but-awful Factor food delivery company. This part genuinely concerns me as it is likely to lead to poorer health overall). I feel so bad for her, because she is putting in so much effort, and with seemingly nothing to show for it.

@Kattydid19 the toxic American food system is a huge topic that should be discussed when talking weight issues. So many things labeled "healthy" are just full of chemicals/unhealthy ingredients. And we've been lied to about what's healthy and what's not for 40 years (like full fat butter vs fake butter full of bad oils). And the food here is not the same as other countries (our wheat and dairy products are awful). As a society, we're starting to wake up to how they're keeping us sick for profit, but it's rarely mentioned when discussing overweight people. Everyone's answer is just eat less and exercise, but there's so much more to consider when trying to lose weight.

@@megane.1073 100% agreed! I still run into people who genuinely believe the lie that butter is harmful and margarine and other similar things are somehow healthy (which traces back to a very successful campaign from something like the 1950s era, “kids that eat margarine are smarter” or some similar line). It’s heartbreaking to see so many trying to be healthy and fit, only to get so discouraged and blame themselves, not realizing the way that companies and the paid-for studies have deceived them. I.e., “this sugary, artificially-dyed cereal is more nutritious than a a handful of pretzels for breakfast” (instead of neither one probably being ideal).

I've been both fat and thin. Being thin is obviously better not just health wise... everyone is just so much nicer to you. So I understand what they mean, I do think some people just really hate fat people... I've had things thrown at me, yelled at from passing cars, shoved, laughed at and teased openly by strangers for buying a salad, etc. just because I was fat. However, these people have taken something that people are genuinely suffering from, and are wearing it like a badge of victimhood, drawing more attention to it. This is making fat people more of a target for bullies, whilst others are too scared of offending to even so much as mention weight.

I was pre diabetic, always right on that edge where they wouldn’t do anything, but my blood sugar would crash about four to five times a week. I’d always have to have candy with me wherever I went. Also not good for any type of weight loss. Now I don’t have any issues. It’s a once a week injection that I will gladly do forever if I have to. I have a few medical conditions that actively work against weight loss, so this has been a blessing for me. If I ever do go off of it I do worry the weight will come back even though I actually eat more when I’m on it. It’s not something that is a quick fix. If you have a few pounds to lose, I don’t recommend it, but if you are like me it could save your life. I know it did mine. Now if you want to lose the 50 pounds, you could go on it and while on it develop super healthy habits so when you’ve lost the weight and want to go off of it the weight might not come back, but I’m not a professional on it so idk if they is feasible or not. What I was eating was healthy and usually less than my children once a day. Food for me has never been enjoyable. It was done once a day to keep me alive. I have medical conditions that actively work against weight loss and have been struggling with it my whole damn life. I didnt wake up one day and wham I’m fat. Once in a while id indulge in a donut or when i had blood sugar crashes I’d have to eat candy to fix it as nothing else did, but it was never about what I was eating. I’ve been bulimic and anorexic when I was a teenager, I’ve tried every fad diet out there, nothing worked. Hell I ate a baked potato plain once a day for three months at one point. I am constantly finding troublesome ingredients (especially soy, “natural flavor”, and seed oils) slid into almost everything at the store. I personally have a hardline with natural flavoring (as it does not actually mean the ingredient is natural, merely that it mimics a flavor from nature, like “banana”), but I’m growing more concerned lately with just how much soy and seed oils are found in everything, including otherwise “healthy” options, like the otherwise more natural brands. After reading up on estro-similar ingredients being a possible major issue with weight gain, I’m even more desirous to start to seriously avoid the seed oils and soy.
