Ozean - AnnenMayKantereit (Live from Frankfurt) (Reaction)

Музыка

This is now my favorite ‪@AnnenMayKantereit‬ song. By far. No contest. It was good to the point that I had to grab my guitar in the middle of the reaction...

    The "her" in the beginning may be a person, but "the past" (die Vergangenheit) in the refrain is a female noun in german, so you can refer the "her" that he wants to distance from to the past he wants to forget because it hurts to remember...

  • @suvijii841

    @suvijii841

    I definitely think it refers to the past, because he sings about the past and the lyrics make more sense that way. German translates to English a bit poorly and the translations don't seem to match.

    @@suvijii841I actually love the ambiguity, that one does not know 100% what is meant.... Henning plays a lot in his lyrics whith language like that and it makes it deeper somehow, for me anyway (and often cannot be fully translated)

    You're so right about Henning playing with doubles senses of words, but here for me "sie" is not 'she' but 'it' (the past) because of the verbe einholen /eingeholt, that matches usually with Vergangenheit...

    One little detail that slipped your attention: It is not said explicitly that this is the effect of a romantic relationship. Vergangenheit (past) is of female gender in german, so the words in the first verse might just relate to to his relationship to his past, not to a partner. For me, that makes it relatable to more people, because you can get to a point like this a myriad of ways.

    The "Her" in this song isn't actually refering to a woman but the past. In german the word for past has a female pronoun (Die Vergangenheit). So he's talking about how he thought he left his past behind but it keeps haunting & hurting him so he wants to get away from it.

    If you like AnnenMayKantereit and their emotional songs, you should definitely listen to "Der Weg" by Herbert Grönemeyer. A beautiful black and white recording of a live performance can be found on KZread, which also has well-translated English subtitles. Herbert Grönemeyer is one of the best lyricists in the German pop/pop-rock landscape and a great musician to boot!

    This is one of my favorites, because of the lyrics. Trying to run away from your past, travel so far that you don't see the familiar places anymore. But even the sea is not enough, you need an ocean.. and even that may not be enough. Henning often sings about the sea. But I have to say: his solo version of this is MILES better. You have to try it!!!! And hey, this song is the first of their songs I also started to practice with a guitar. Like I said, my favorite one, too.

    Henning May is not his real name, in real life he has the surname of his mother who was not married to his dad, but he chose the name of his father (May) as an artist name, so the father's name is on the stage and in public. I think that and the lyrics about his past (his mam) gives us a deep look in his soul...
