Oya / Yansa the Ifa Lukumi Santeria Orisha of the Cemetary : Our Roots Podcast

Ойын-сауық

Oya is the most complex of the female orishas in Ifa! Apart from being the cemetery goddess of Lukumi Santeria, she plays so many other roles! She is the owner of the market, wind, lightning, a river deity, and the mistress of Shango! To understand the experience of the children of this complex orisha, Our Roots Podcast sat down with Kayla, owner of Eden’s Essential Elements who is a daughter of Oya! If you want to know what Oya is really all about, watch this video!

As a daughter of Oya and hearing that story of Obatala got me tearing up because when I was homeless this was my attitude with my family. I vowed I would never go back and I didn’t I slept in my car, with friends and when my aunt told me she knew and that’s why she would ask md to stay over I cried in the car but still denied. I like to fight my own battles I don’t like to be a burden I know I can overcome things I just need space. The story touched me. ♥️📿

Same! I don’t have pride so much as I believe that real family would never let family fall by the wayside. I’ve been left to fend for myself since young. I can’t stand being around people who pretend to care and kick you when you’re down. I left my relatives behind and haven’t looked back since. I’ll do for myself or go without. It takes a lot for me to ask for anything. If I ask for anything, I trust you completely.

I used to think the episode regarding Shango/Elie was the best or the exchange with Ochun/James, but I love the vast mystery of this one. I think every soul who has been on your beautiful podcast counts and shouldn’t be measured as a performance or competition, but those three episodes I mentioned are amazing. I’m so grateful to be a viewer and consumer. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. If there’s anything I can do to support this channel aside from sharing, please let me know. @@erikarouby5000 I agree with you there, too. This is one of those, depends on school of thought you subscribe to, but all in all much of it’s the same thing. I happen to lean more towards Eastern astrology so sometimes the outer planets will not always be considered. Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius while Saturn is the traditional ruler. Uranus is very different from Saturn. However I can see the energies of both planets carried within the essence of Oya. I would say Oya embodies the characteristics of both, uranus -sudden change, electricity, humanitarianism, transactions while the focus of Saturn- restriction, karmic duty, responsibility, tradition, old age/ afterlife. I really love how everything ties in to the planets and astrology ultimately. I feel Oya is one of the most multifaceted of the Orisha, too.

Alafia! In African astrology she governs Scorpio and Scorpio is in the 9th house in tropical.Scorpio is also ruled by Pluto and Mars. I study this many years ago. I can’t recall the African Tribe that correlates the cosmic aspects of Orisha and how it speaks on how the Orishas created the cosmos. The information is out there. Its ALL connected. Asé

As a medium I am learning to reserve my energy from passing on messages to certain people. I have had other peoples ancestors directly come to me to warn their loved ones that KNOW I am a medium and they still don’t take heed until it’s too late. The ignored warnings is what frustrates me and the ancestors too! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Especially, when it affects a child and that’s when I want to become a tornado and swallow them whole for not listening.😩

Greetings. Because I am new to the study (one year), I have studied who I may be a child of. For the longest, I thought Ogun. I studied Elegba, Ochun, Yemaja, Osanyin, and Ochosi. I had been too afraid to approach Oya because I heard that she was no joke lol!. But this week, I kept getting a message to study and approach her. When I watched this video, I just threw my hands in the air, teared up a little, and smiled. Every single thing stated about her characteristics describes me to a T!!! My daughter often jokes that I don’t approach Oya because I’m scared to see myself. Basically saying, seeing me is seeing Oya. I do have a question: 1. Is it true Oya is not to be near Yemaja and Ochun on an alter? Thank you.

Babalawo, I am confused. I though t to be crowned with orisha and initiation process you need to shave the heads??? I am confused. Is there a tradition where you get crowned without shaving and going through the intense process??? A video about that would be helpful. I had heard from elders here in South Florida that there is a mini ritual where you dress white for 7 days and no need to shave the head or anything like that. I greatly appreciate the help and guidance. Ase! Wow... her story reminiscence with my own. Not as much as King Bruju, his is close to identical, but her ability to sense spirits and see them... yep... I had that. Not scary... but it was annoying because I didn't know how to respond back. Thank you for these podcasts, Baba. These truly help strengthen the community and show how many more people are out there with these abilities. Blessed be. ASE!

Total 9880+ subscribers and a Total of 50+ Upload videos of your channel. I notice one thing that according to your channel your channel videos are not viewed and subscribed. You need to optimize your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. If your channel is optimized a little and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow. And monetization of your channel will be on.

With all the respect that I have for your work and your channel. Not sure why a snow bunny is there. YORUBA culture is OUR culture and African culture, they forced us into Christianity, Islam and Judaism and now they are invited into OUR TABLE to discuss about our spirituality. In my logical mind, it is not on.
