    The flame is only to get the metal hot enough to reach the activation energy for the oxygen to literally burn the steel. Chemistry is awesome.

    Do I have this correct; The metal is just burning on its own basically? The oxy is just speeding up the process? This is breaking my brain.

    I have never had to cut a rail track. Mostly 516 plate, triple three, 106 and 36 WF. Like to try it one day. Good cut. However, you want to see some insane flame burning, check out the crazy shipbreakers in places like Turkey and Pakistan. Yikes, everyday is a lottery with life when it comes to them guys. Scary stuff.

    I just went through education for cutting rail and this right here is impressive as hell. Its hard to see from the flame lines if they are bending in the bottom of the head and foot/midsection connection if so the cut might be a bit too fast. Id hate to grind it to the 0.3mm tolerance. But still just getting the piece to drop freehand is hella impressive, well done.

  • @luisff7030

    @luisff7030

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes it can. First the flame heat the metal until it start to melt, then a jet of pure oxygen burn all the metal in contact and make the cut. Pure oxygen in contact with liquid metal will burn the metal and produce heat + oxidized metal. What really cut is the jet of oxygen, the flame is only to heat and melt.

  • @Len_M.

    @Len_M.

    7 жыл бұрын

    Rob N It goes Propane, MAPP, then Acetylene in terms of max flame temp. It doesn't really matter during a cut though, cause if you really wanted, you could turn the fuel gas right off after initializing the cut, cutting on pure oxygen alone.

Had really primmo equipment and recovered the cut finishing all four caps. Inspecting the quality of the cut one-- the cap that ran with no gas shroud---that cut was clean square with no blems.
