Fascinating. I recall crossing many railway tracks on the A422 between Stratford and Banbury on day trips in the 1960s and 1970s but this may of course been the MOD network. Glad it was captured on film with a history!

This film brings back memories of the operation of these ironstone operations. I remember seeing the trains when riding cycle time trials on the Stratford Road. In 1962 I went to the engine sheds. I am pleased to see this film.

Wow.. I remember my dad taking me to see the steam trains and lifting me up as they came through Banbury and over the 'German Bridge' as it was called then. Lovely memories this video brings back.

I have a very clear memory of my Dad stopping the car one misty morning in the early 1960's between Wroxton and Horley and seeing a steam loco appearing out of the mist and across the level crossing near in front of us and disappearing back into the mist.

Very good, but it would have been nice to see more of/have more info on that smartly turned out Sentinel steam (vertical boilered tank) loco which passed in front of the camera during the filming of the buckeye - coupling fitted 0-4-0 st.

I could remember a bridge they called it the German bridge on the Warwick Rd back in the early 70s near Banbury by the ironstone footpath i often wonder why they called the bridge the German bridge sadly the bridge is not there anymore

All gone with little trace left to be seen now, though I was dog walking along the old track bed on Sunday morning, there is the odd stretch of fence, and a few feet of kerbing where a level crossing used to be, the odd hint here and there to indicate it was once a railway line, but other than that nothing at all. The old quarry yard and buildings were still standing as recently as the1990's, but has now been developed into a rural business park which houses the Bentley Drivers Club amongst others. The fields from which the ore was dug have long returned to agriculture, and I wonder how many people ever wonder (or even notice) why they are 15 feet or so lower than the surroundings?
