Ida C. It was a BIG fave of mine, too! He was so proud of it and then over the course of the tour you could see how he had been made to feel like it wasn't any good and that it was silly. ugh Why couln't people leave him alione. He was way too sensitive and artistic for all that negativity. They made him doubt himself and I don't know if he's ever quite recovered his own style because of it.

I've never been to any of his shows and have not interacted much with the hootowls either. This means that when I listened to ATBAB the first time, and many times after that, I didn't know the public opinion of it. I feel like it just shows how the public can change the individual's mind - both the listeners and the artist himself. It's a bit sad, because while his music still reflects some of his earlier dreams and the magical bubble he lived in, he seems a lot more focused on what the public would like to hear songs about and the sound they want. I think Adam wants to play the music he plays now as well, and that it's a direction he's comfortable going, but the music does lose some of the character it had when he was too new to composing to REALLY know what was considered "right" and "wrong" in the industry.

You know I don`t see why he had to make music with other writers, i mean its great in all because hes expanding, but still when I listen to an Owl City song, i always picture him writing it by HIMSELF in his BASEMENT not fully knowing his music is touching the lives of millions of people. Just kinda locked away in his imagination, making QUALITY songs, not just pumping out filler songs for endless albums. Adam Young is the best musician I have encountered.

never been convinced that co-writing was adam's idea. idk he never seemed very thrilled about it. his manager said that when he first got signed, the record label wanted to throw a bunch of co-writers and producers at him for Ocean Eyes, but decided not to in the end. then after ATBAB flopped, it makes perfect sense to me that the record label would push for co-writers again. regardless, i'm thrilled that he's writing on his own again. so much better.

This actually brought tears to my eyes. It's sad, really. I feel like Adam's growing up in his music and growing out of his dreamy stage, which was my favorite. He's growing into more pop than anything. It's weird that I think that my childhood is ending with this record. I will always fully support Adam in everything that he does. It's just sad.

Adam was dazzled and daydreaming with his ocean eyes. During it he saw all things bright and beautiful and felt complete. Then after his trip he passed through the midsummer station to get to his next destination. This destination was one to see ultraviolet. Then he took his mobile orchestra and made what he interpreted from all that he had seen, and Owl City's music was born.

I didn't really like this record at first but it grew in on me. I realized there's a lot of things I didn't catch when I first listened to TMS. Metropolis was especially whimsical. Shooting Star was empowerment and had that "top of the world" feel. Silhouette was about coping with anything, whether from a past relationship or from losing a friend. Gold had a melancholic scheme to it. Dreams and Disasters was very similar to "Dreams Don't Turn to Dust," but had a different flavor because it had a less curious sound and almost spoke to me like "I can't control what the world wants but I'll stay the way I am, because it's more important to me." The Midsummer Station was worth WAY more than the mere 10 bucks I spent on it. Believe me, it WILL come across as "mainstream pop" at first. But you'll figure out that you don't judge a record by the very first listen, or the rumors spread across about one. You'll have to listen for yourself.

I agree. It’s different, but in a very good way. The only song that makes me feel a little “off” is “I’m Coming After You”. Not exactly sure why. Maybe it’s just that the lyrics coming from Adam feel almost ingenuine, in a way.

I adore the new album. I feel like there's a lot of the old things I loved about his music, stuff that just says 'Owl City' to me, mixed in with all these new things, too. Adam has a beautiful voice and an even more beautiful, creative mind, and I'm just excited that I've gotten to follow his work for so long. Everyone can definitely have an opinion about the direction he's going in, the whole point of experimenting is to see how it goes after all, but I hope everyone keeps an open mind, as well

Last year when I saw you in concert in the cold month of November, I trembled until I saw you appear on stage. I cried the entire concert because of how blessed I felt to be in your presence. I cried because I had the chance to witness a man who invoked these deep, hidden emotions inside of me that I thought were gone. When I heard of this new album, my emotions were nonexistent again, & you sure don't look as happy about your new work. If you're not happy now, go back to the way things were.

You can tell when Adam is talking about co-writing with other people he’s not super excited. And also in The Making of ATBAB video Adam said lyrics always come first, but with this album they were trying to make lyrics that fit into a beat. His process changed so much between the two albums, and it seemed like Adam wasn’t in as much creative control anymore😢

Adam wanted to try something new and challenging. Did you not hear him? "Right now I'm really fascinated with trying to capture magic in a really simple pop song. You have 3 minutes and it's gotta be really catchy and full of ear candies. That's like a really cool challenge." He's really enjoying experimenting with his sound and I think it's wonderful that he's trying new things. Of course, we all love Adam's original sound like in ATBAB, but we should support him through everything! #OWLSOME!

I need to say this. Adam should have never let co writers come in a change everything about an artist such as Adam that is comfortable creating music on his own. Those two co writers know NOTHING about music and they are trying to shape the artist who is very dear to my heart. All the music he's created on his own were like no other and such beautiful masterpieces. Yet the midsummer station was just so not him and radio sounding garbage. I think he was peer pressured into having other writers on an album to help it sell more. It just made him seem like any other artist and all his amazing old stuff was just shoved aside like it doesn't matter but in reality that's what really owl city is. Nobody else just ADAM YOUNG.

woa calm down dude. "The two co writers know NOTHING about music" Don't you think that's a bit rude? Cause I think they're great as well, maybe they just don't really fit to Adam. Cause it's like.....Adam has his own style of music and I agree, it includes many songs that sound different to Owl City but there are a few yongs I really liked as well, for example Silhouette (But you have to say that this song was written by Adam only) or Gold (Adam was not even included in writing but still it's a great song). Maybe in the end we should just let Adam do his stuff. He's only human as well, he wanted to try out working with others, since working alone on everything is very hard and I think it was like a little shock all his hard work on All Things Brigth And Beautiful was for nothing. Adam got back to his dreams, doing his own songs and we shouldn't blame him for JUST TRYING OUT working with others. And I'm sure your comment wasn't supposed to be rude but I just wanted to give a little answer :)

I think I found part of the reason the midsummer station sounds less "dreamy" as adams past albums. Listening to the itunes previews there seems to be a huge lack of strings compared to his past works. That was always an essential part to what made owl city awesome and its sad thats its not as present as past albums.

the midsummer station is a different beast to previous albums. the lyrics that were once so hyperbolic and fantastical now kinda have more realism in them. the songs are still as catchy as ever though. so far my favourite songs are silhouette (for being so sweet and emotional), speed of love (for being so adorable and catchy) and metropolis (which is a euphoric masterpiece of song) and then of course good time is such a great single - it's at number three on UK midweeks atm which is amazing

I totally agree with you. I was once a super obsessed fan of Owl City, but now I just feel that he is like any other artist on the radio. He still conveys that magic in his songs, but not to the fullest extent like he used to. I don't know, he can do what he wants, but then he just has to deal with losing some of his old fans who were with him during his era of electropop music. Sigh

What's the meaning of Adam Young..? - Inspiration. - Passion. - Expression. Adam Young a.k.a. Owl City is a true artist! I love the way he is living. He's so humble. I will always be a big fan of Owl City. I'm an OWL CITIZEN! Adam, thanks for creating music, thanks for inspiring, and thanks for making me reminisce moments in my life.

When I found Owl City, I was stuck in the backseat of my friend's car, they were blaring awful music and all of a sudden Fireflies came on. I was so relieved to hear something I liked. Then when I found all of his music was just as good- I was elated, I may not be his biggest fan, but he's my favorite musician EVER. I can tell his music is changing- but I still loooove what I've heard so far. :)

Nope... Don't you remember him tweeting about how much he loves how this is a lot more of a dance album and how he wished he lived in Northern Europe to make trance beats in a basement? Etc? i'm quite convinced this is his taste right now and i LOVE it....cannot WAIT for the album and i'm having an extremely tough time with not playing the previews every day in iTunes Japan store.

you should be happy he's still doing his music with passion, doesn't matter if some of the lyrics aren't weird and mysterious like before, they're still amazing and unique. He's making GREAT pop music unlike most pop artists today.

I'm glad he realizes that creating songs to beat Fireflies is not the way to go about things. Wasn't sure if that's what he was doing or not earlier, but it's good to finally hear that those aren't his intentions.

His new stuff tends to grow on me as I listen over again, but his old stuff used to leave me mind-blown. I miss the Vanilla Twilight-type feel of his songs.... :')

Has no one heard Silhouette? Metropolis? Adam is still there. He's just added different sounds, different concept, a beautiful simplicity to some of his songs, oh well. He's a masterful producer and the fact that's he's dabbling in trance, house, indietronica makes me really proud of him. I love the sound of Speed of Love, it's enchanting. I admit that there's some softer songs on the album, but Adam is Adam and that will never change.

Totally agree and I think people aren't really thinking about that he is getting older and that he can't produce the same sound over again and plus your music tells a story and this is just the beginning.

As a long time Adam Young-music, fan, I can tell how hard Adam is trying to not write the same record a million times. Plus the fact he's being pushed by his label to do things he's never done. (AKA: not do everything on his own). Adam will always be Adam. Owl City will continue to change and evolve, but Adam will always put out music he believes in.

I agree. That is one of the two exeptions to his new track. The rest just sounds like pop, or drum beat.
