I would bet my paycheck if it was your child you would want to stop the show as well. I know exactly what you're saying though and i completly agree with what you're saying. I don't know how showbiz works so I can't say but I would bet there's a set of different rules when it's your name on everyone's paychecks.

In all fairness, and I think Vince has proven to be a total scumbag. But for this exact reason, if something like this happened today, the event wouldn't go on. Just last year an NFL player nearly died on the field and the game was stopped. Same thing would happen in wrestling cause the time is now and not then. 1999 was just flat out a different world

I’d assume somebody recorded it and hasn’t shown it due to legal reasons. But, I’ve also heard that the fall was never shown on PPV due to livestream delays specifically to stop people from recording deaths.

Tough call. When AC/DC played in salt lake city i think 93, some girls got crushed to death at the show before the band started. The band was horrified and didnt want to play, but management said if they didnt play it would only get worse. Difference here is it wasnt a crowd safety thing. But maybe it was the only way to work through it. I dont know. But what shocked ne was Vince on morning news shows saying "no one saw owen die, we blacked out the arena." Of all the times the news did stupid witch hunt crap, and kind of did here, that was a stupid way to answer for a fatal screw up

We talk about it on our Owen Hart episode of our podcast! But short version here: Vince vigorously defended himself in court against Owen’s surviving wife and kids. And he also lobbied extremely hard to get their civil case moved from Kansas City (where Owen died under his watch) to Connecticut where WWE is headquartered because he knew they would A. Treat him favorably and B. Connecticut has strict cap on civil damages. Instead of making it right he did everything in his power to not take accountability and actively fight against them. Not a great guy.

You guys have to understand when something runs "live" there is at least 3 minute delay on your tv. These 2-3 minutes of delay are done on purpose for the producers to be able to control "unexpected" events during a live show...for example somebody running in and "bombing" the show, or some crazy accident that they cannot show on live tv....so there is always a minute or two delay.

I was only 18 years old when I saw this that Sunday night and it was so uncomfortable to watch and hear from Jim Ross, but we all know it wasn't JR's decision to make that tragic announcement. It was Kevin Dunn's disgusting decision.

Almost 25 years have passed since that day. Seems like only yesterday I was in college, hearing about it from a friend who watched the PPV. At first, I thought it was a storyline taken too far (it was the Attitude era after all), but yep, couldn’t believe it. I still half expect him to turn up on TV and say ‘hah! Had you going for 25 years!’ ❤

I remember watching this live in the Uk when i was 14 years old and it was a moment I will never forget. I don’t JR should have been told to announce the death of Owen it should have been up to the Hart family to announce it not while you were still on the air. Even then the PPV should have been stopped for the investigation to take place.

Sad thing also that Owen wasn't planning to wrestle for much longer. He wasn't a fan of the way the company was going creatively in terms of the attitude era stuff and obviously how he was being used as well and being away from his young family. so he was planning to see out the remainder of his contract and then train to be a first responder so he didn't have to be on the road all the time and could be with his family. Such a shame he never got to enjoy that time with his family all because they wanted to do something ridiculous with an already bad gimmick

@@giantenemybird2687 How did they know he was going to fall? Because that show was being aired live all over the world. Even today when you want to watch it, they cut it right at the moment when he starts falling. After he fell I can remember thinking: surely that can't be part of the act. There was a slight delay in the show as paramedics treated him, and took to hospital then show resumed. When the show was about half way through, one of the commentators announced that he had died.
