I've watched quite a few vids on Carnarvon Gorge after visiting there maybe eight years ago but yours is about the only one that to me captures the magic of that place. We did the same walk you did in exactly the same order and the next day climbed the bluff for a spectacular view from the top looking across and down.

We visited Carnarvon Gorge , did the first walk you have done and camped up at Sandstone Park back in 2017 . Sandstone Park had not long been opened so not many campers back then . Such a memorable place to visit and investigate the awesome side tracks . Well done for the effort needed for the second hike . We are not young so were 68 when we did Carnarvon Gorge in 2017 but we managed about 12 kms walk with all the side tracks .

It is truly special to gift your kids such wonderful experiences. What a wonderfully right decision you all made as a family to tread this path, and to encourage others to appreciate the wonders of this beautiful country. I was there a few weeks back on a shakedown trip with a new van, and did the same walks and turnaround points - art gallery was definitely the right place to get to for the day of walking. Agree with you about Sandstone Park - incredible wraparound views, especially beautiful at sunset. Very much appreciate what you guys do, and your down to earth attitude and telling it like it is. Have learnt heaps from you! Thank you!

Hi from New Zealand. Well Carnarvon Gorge looks an amazing place to visit and we might have to go there when we are in Queensland next time. We have visited the Gold Coast and Cairns As we are from NZ I am a bit worried about snakes as we don't have any in NZ. As you are building your 76 LC at McCormacks can we have some video shows there, show us around if you are allowed. Show us what they sell and yours and other vehicle builds. This will be exciting. Keep the happy travels going

The snakes are more scared you, the carnarvon gorge is probably about an 8hr drive from Cairns guessing give or take a few hours. A must visit and allow 3/4 days to take in everything that the gorge has to offer.

Best time of year to go? Having driven through Queensland in December/January when it’s incredibly hot and prone to flooding (when not in a drought like we are now) I’d assume to aim for between April and October, even only as late as August. Although being a Darwin girl, sometimes the rain season can have the most spectacular scenery and show of life, despite the seasonal discomfort. I’m purely speculating and open to correction😂

You can see the reason that the Gorge is so popular...fantastic place. Re the thongs.....I must admit that every time I see Simon walking bushy areas in thongs, I wince. Goes back many years ago that I had to remove a long thin eucalyptus twig that had penetrated my mate's flesh between the big and next toe along....despite the protective qualities of the plug! Was just normal walking pace around the camp ground..in thongs. Removed about 30mm of stick with the only thing to hand...pliers from the car tool kit. Turns my stomach to this day and always wear covered shoes around camp. All the best for your travels.

I spent a few days camped atop Sandstone Park and hiking Carnarvon Gorge last year, so I totally get the emotional rush this place invokes. It ranks highly as one of my favourite rewarding hikes with such variety, awe inspiring landscape and culturally significant display. You and the boys are an inspiration to us couch surfers. I thoroughly enjoyed retracing the walk - criss crossing the watercourse via semi submerged stepping stones. Brilliant. 🏞
