I don’t think it is sustainable for players since they aren’t guaranteed pay like before BUT more teams can participate SO this more sustainable for the competitive overwatch ecosystem.

@@TheFanboySlayer That's definitely what OP meant. It's sustainable for any truly competitive Overwatch scene. The guaranteed pay was part of what made the old system unsustainable. It's overly ambition to dump tens- hundreds of millions of dollars on any of it. Sponsors will still want to throw money at players that are being seen by a lot of people, so let's still plenty of money that can come their way but it takes the pressure off of Blizzard, which was necessary for it to be sustainable, which was the point.

They used a hexagon instead of a pentagon…6 sides instead of 5…6v6 confirmed.

On one hand i recognize that e sports help video games a lot and i hope this succeeds, on the other hand i hope the focus on e sports doesn't drag the other aspects of the game down

For those wondering, details for the Asia pacific region were released on the KR and JP official ow esport channel. yearly TOTAL prize pool for the region is $300,000 (no details on who wons what and at what event) the schedule will be first Mon/Tue/Wed => Japan qualifiers Thu => Pacific qualifiers Fri/Sat/Sun => Korea qualifiers at 5pm KST / JST So basically, the region will finally get watchable / regular high level overwatch streaming live. I think that's definitely going to help community to build

OW PC is and always will be the primary place for competitive Overwatch. You simply cannot afford to have multiple circuits for different platforms, so you have to pick the one that has the most players and more serious environment, hence why PC is chosen.

@@darkops1655 it is, they are putting focus in competitive play. it is WAY to early for them to consider OWL again. i don’t know why they even are attempting to do this when the owl failed so miserably at the end. the game atp is in a horrible state balance wise, and they are going to do the SAME thing and balance the game around the pro scene. this will overall be worse for the game. they should focus on community driven things; dbd and apex both have included fan skins, fan designs, artist x streamer collabs(apex) but ow? they RARELY have ever done that. they need to focus on the crowd that is the VAST majority. they need to fix MMR in qp too not just in comp because why are my gold friends getting put against GMS and Master players in qp that leads to frustration and not wanting to play the game ? flash point has a 2 cp problem where some stalling can totally change the flow of game. so again? why are they putting resources that they could be into the game else where.

competitive andy’s are so annoying because they’re such a small loud minority that drives casual players away. i’m honestly so tired of it that they continue to push this pro scene that doesn’t need to be their focus anymore. they can barely balance this game effectively esp since they balance it in a way where they say one thing and then do the complete opposite of it. i’ve been playing this game over 1400 hours i’ve witness a LOT of changes over the years. this IS not the play they think it is.

@@crypsguts OWL failed because it was a franchised format, not because of the idea of esports itself. The game itself had very little to do with OWL's downfall. The OWCS essentially makes it more like CS and pre-franchised Valorant that lets anyone join the league and allow third-party organizers to support the esports scene and let pretty much anyone join Tier 1 without having to drop 8 figures just to exist. You shouldn't be playing PvP games if you don't like the competitive aspects of it as that comes naturally with it, and balance changes are bound to happen when you decide to expand a hero shooter's roster. It's also hard to take the general public's advice when their idea of balancing the game is deleting heroes and maps from existence without a second thought instead of critically thinking of ways to change said features.

@@CR0WYT actually no, it did, i recommend looking at previous takes from different creators about the goat meta and double shield meta. these metas effectively made the game unplayable you had high mechanical skills dumb down to brawl fights between tanks. to say it wasn’t the downfall of the owl is just being ignorant and sucking the devs nuts because y’all refuse to hold them accountable let’s be real here they DO NOT play their own game because even now they have extremely balance issues. like how did those health pool changes go live when zens discord ate them up, paired with the changes to projectiles and the dps passive they didn’t even let blizzard apologist streamers to try it only played it for maybe two games and no feedback.

I watched OWL like maybe 3 times. Congratulations to the fans who wanted to watch more. I think I'll continue not watching it.

Blizz did the same thing with WoW pvp a month ago. They made tournaments with over 50000 dollar in prize pools but they didn't account for the fact that the game is complete dogshit in the state that its in and only 0.00001% of people are ever going to play in the tournament. Same thing with overwatch, the game is fundamentally bad and is not at all competitive. Them making tournaments doesn't change the game whatsoever. Faceit is hilarious too, the NA faceit population is pretty much single digit. Maybe there will be a faceit boom but it is bound to die in a month or even less. Faceit is literally used because of cheaters in games like CS tf2 and dota because its incredibly easy to cheat in this game. Overwatch has cheaters but not at the same level as those 3 games. More and more reasons on why faceit literally means nothing for the overwatch community, and the fact that this tournament is only going to be touched by a tiny tiny percent of players
