Genji and Hanzo were both sons of the master of a powerful, yet evil, ninja clan. Genji was a wealthy playboy, born rich and privileged, and while he was just as skilled as his older brother Hanzo, he never really wanted anything to do with the illegal business of the clan. Once the master died unexpectedly, the elders of the clan required Genji and Hanzo to take over and lead the clan. However, Genji still refused, preferring to take his own path. In response, the elders commanded Hanzo to straighten him out. This resulted in a battle that didn't end well for Genji. Having killed his brother (or so he thought), Hanzo was heartbroken, and rejected his birthright, leaving the clan completely. Hanzo became a wandering soul, seeking to regain his honor by mastering his skills on the battlefield as a mercenary/assassin all over the world. Overwatch found Genji's broken body, and seeing his potential, decided to save him, if he would pledge himself to helping their cause. Genji agreed, allowing Overwatch to take what remained, and transform him into a cyborg warrior (half-human, half machine). During his time with Overwatch, Genji also devoted himself to completely dismantling the clan he was once a part of, and pretty much succeeded, making them a shell of what they once were. However, Genji had never been able to fully come to grips with his new existence, and eventually left Overwatch. During his travels, he came in contact with Zenyatta, the traveling robot/monk, who helped him find true peace, as well as the will to forgive his brother for what he had done to him. Genji is now wise beyond his years, having spent much time with Zenyatta, and adopting many of his principles. What we see in this video, is the continuation of their story.

+BallzBallz I cringe at all the people who says "they should make a movie already" in every Blizzard cinematic trailer. You people have no idea how film making works, what goes behind making a movie and how different it is from a short animation. Everyone thinks the natural next step from a short animation is to go on to movies. The reason why these Blizzard trailers are so good is precisely because they are short, with details and action packed into minutes and not stretched on for hours. People have been nagging Blizzard to make a movie ever since WoW and now there is finally going to be one, yet 99% of the people I know have 0 clue that Blizzard isn't actually making the movie. The special effects are done by ILM and not Blizzard's VFX team, neither is the movie directed by people from Blizzard. What made people want a movie in the first place was because their VFX team makes top notch CGI and their visual directors are also great, yet everyone is asking for a movie with 0 idea that what they will get is not what they actually want.

+HilzGaming they made Warcraft based on Warcraft, their RTS of the same name. WoW is another branch off from that original Warcraft RTS. the sequel gave rise to DOTA, and people still forget about it in the shadow of the behemoth that is WoW. kind of sad.

Big difference between robits and peeplz. It's a pegi rating thing it would seem. It's my guess that to keep their rating they have to not kill people. Notice that no human dies, ever, and also that the heroes have an incredibly hard time getting struck by a single bullet despite a hail of gunfire (see widowmaker / tracer) It's not a huge deal, just kinda bothers me

I would rather see an amazing 3 hours long CG movie than see some same old boring Hollywood actors/actresses dressed up as characters in a movie. Also they tend to ruin the costume designs in movies by changing them...hate that.

I got to see these in the cinema as part of the Overwatch launch event and it was legitimately one of the coolest experiences ever.

I love Hanzo's facial expressions throughout the whole thing. Whenever Genji did something cool he was like "Oh shit, I'm screwed"

This is crazy beautiful short and story!

The other shorts were ok, but this one is something special. The stylistic intro/backdrop of the dragon brothers folktale and its immediate parrallel to Hanzo and Genji was deftly done. For only 6 minutes an impressive amount of story and character intimacy is conveyed while also having a lot of great action. Narrator sounds like Cary Tagawa. Also, that moment when Genji goes super saiyan green in the shadows +1.

Fuck making a movie, make an Animated series!!! (In placement for the campaign which I hear doesn't exist)

Not possible. A series, any series, has many episodes and the episodes need to be make in a limit amount of time. It takes more of less 3 months to animate a few minutes of a movie or episode with good quality. Now imagine an animated series. They would have to severely reduce the quality of the graphics and textures to release the episodes on time. So in the end it wouldn't look good, not nearly as good as these videos.

See Kung Fu Panda for instance. There is an animated series but if you compare the quality of the graphics and texture on the movie and the series, you will notice the series has a much lower quality.
