I completely agree. When I went last February, I couldn’t stop smiling like a dork and I ended up crying at such beauty. It was so breathtaking. There were sparks flying out of the chandelier when I saw it and it reached across the whole theater, it was amazing! Definitely hoping to see it again soon 💗

I saw this at the Fox Theater in St. Louis, MO, sometime around 2000/2001, when I was either a Freshman or Sophomore. Our choir went to see the show. It was absolutely amazing and I still remember the chandelier rising. It was so moving! Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

I saw this back in '99 at the Majestic Theater when I was in college and it's a totally differently feeling when you see this masterpiece live rather than on TV. As soon as the pipe organ kicks in, the floor vibrates, your chair shakes, and a plethora of emotions runs through your body. You feel joy, fear, suspense, awe, and so much more. You may even shed some tears, but that's ok. You're surrounded by musical magic & genius. It's sensory overload and it never gets old.

My second time seeing POTO (first time being old enough to actually appreciate it), the overture had like three false starts because the chandelier got stuck and didn't rise like it's supposed to. Took them about 15 minutes to fix it. Totally worth it though. The sound of the organ is so powerful, it reverberates around the entire theatre, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, and the drum beats feel like they're pounding directly on your chest.

I had no idea what to expect, I just knew the name of the show from various people having talked about it when I was younger, much like CATs and a few other shows. I was 15 years old, and I still can not put into words, how incredible this introduction was. I have zero doubt, that every single audience member had the hair on the back of their necks stand up, and not getting the chills is impossible, as the ENTIRE theater just resonates with the overture in one absolutely unforgettable moment. I was still young, but this remains the moment when I realized that Broadway productions weren't just "shows", they were full on experiences, and in the case of just this intro/overture- an unforgettable moment, that has never been topped.

The first time I saw this at Majestic, I really didn't want to go. I didn't know anything about Phantom of the Opera, other than it sounded boring. So I went in with absolutely no knowledge of what I was about to experience. I was bored and rolling my eyes throughout the initial auction scene, and then the drapes were ripped off, there was a loud bang and bright spark, and the blast from the organs. I just about jumped from my seat. Suddenly I had chills, was wide awake, and was very interested. I'll never forget that moment.

I remember when I was 17 seeing this when it was on tour and the sparks and the loud bang from the chandelier made me jump in my seat and my mom gasp and laughed.

Seeing the chandelier come to life under that overture is stellar, but can we also acknowledge the thrill you then also feel when those canvases are suddenly ripped away to reveal that incredible proscenium?

I wish I could’ve seen this on Broadway. I’ve only just recently got obsessed with this when my school did Phantom of the Opera as their closing show of the year. The only time I felt sad when it was over.

There are moments in my life which should have frightened me, and they did but at the same time they put me in aw. I'll never forget experiencing this when I was a kid, it's locked in my mind and it gives me chills.

They always say "Do you remember your first time?" And oh yes I remember it very, very well. My first time seeing it at the Majestic nothing will ever compare to it, no matter how many times I see the show. The sound was incredible, and I could not take my eyes off the chandelier as it was rising. And honestly I never thought I would actually ever make it to see Phantom at the Majestic but I did, and honestly was the highlight of my trip to New York. Hard to believe it's been nearly 2 years now.

I saw this while it was on tour in Seattle so many years ago and we had balcony seats. But you had great seats down on the main floor. I still get the chills when seeing and and hearing the Overture.

So much better than on tour. The first natl tour was great, subsequent ones cut down on the magic, glamour, and sheer wonder. it now resembles a high school production.
