From what I've heard/seen, the main reason you save the treasure chests until VB is for the maps and curios, so saving Cosmic Atlas, Ancient Treasure and Pet Index are good. It's actually generally a good idea to save those three at EVERY "Late" stage so that once you break through to the next main stage, you can get a bunch of maps to get materials for forging new gear(such as going from Incarn -> VB or VB -> Wholeness). So once you hit VB late, or Wholeness late, it's generally recommended to start saving them again to prepare for next gear set. Other than those 3, people generally say you can open the others whenever.

You can yes, only issue would be game enjoyment. VB late is 1.5 months for f2p if not longer and that’s a long time to not open boxes and be behind peers. Same with WN late which is even longer. If you want to min/max yes that is the best route.

Do you know if its worth saving the treasure trove tokens until VB or do the rewards remain the same? Spirit world just opened for our server and I noticed there is a new treasure trove equivalent for spirit world.

On the top right of your screen, there's a spirit realm icon. Tap it and it'll give you the option to switch it back to mortal realm and vise versa.
