OVERLANDING PHANTOM CANYON ROAD (Cripple Creek Colorado To Canon City)

In this video, we are Overlanding Phantom Canyon Road. This road will take you from Cripple Creek Colorado to Canon City. RVing near Canon City allows us to do some colorado scenic drives.
While boondocking in our travel trailer near Penrose Colorado we use the OnX Offroad App to scout out some local trails. We decide to take Shelf road from Canon City, up to Cripple Creek Colorado. After exploring the old mining town of Cripple Creek, we take the historic scenic drive on Phantom Canyon Road back to Canon City. These roads are easily doable in a stock 4x4, but they are extremely scenic and a little nerve-racking at times. We take our Overland Ram, and a few friends join with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and a stock Jeep Liberty. Thanks for watching.

@@AdventureEndeavor Great video. The first time I took it was at around 4am in the morning in an early 1980s manual transmission 4x4 toyota pickup with a little flat bed I bought from a friend I met from the Andes mountains. I had no idea at the time that it was a shelf road. LOL No internet in those days to speak of. This was around 2001ish.

All great reasons! We have full-timed for 10 years. For seven of those years, our daughters were with us. There were times when Barry had to travel for business and it was scarey being without a vehicle or sometimes just a huge pain to take him to an airport we weren’t familiar with and then pick him up. We should have done what you guys are doing. We’ve also had our share of breakdowns when a second vehicle would have been really nice. We always worked it out but it isn’t always easy,

I lived and worked in the Creek.years ago. When a tourist would ask me how to get out of town I would ask if they were driving in a rental...if yes Phantom or Shelf. If not and they loved their car...back on 67 to Divide. I sold jewelry we made in the Creek, silver with semiprecious gem stones, lots of Cripple Creek turquoise, and lots of sweatshirts when the sun went down...it gets cold at almost 10,000 feet high! A married couple were in the back seats my wife wanted to drive and I was in the front passenger seat. Well going up the tires started to slip a little. We were all buckled in but my wife decided she was going to unbuckle her seat, open the door and got ready to jump out. I quickly said WHAT the hell are you doing? Where were you planning on going?
