@getoutgo that was a fantastic episode! I love that you don’t “so Ja lekker..” when narrating as well. Not sure why we saffas do that (personal pet peave). Really pro videography and interesting content. You also have my wife excited for overlanding now - which I have to thank you for! Have to ask - what happened to your rig that got you to R80k mark? Sheesh.. must have been major. Excellent Job!

Thanks! Check out my Namibia series; the dual battery broke loose, caused a short and cooked the main wiring loom (just that part alone was R20k)...

Incredible video and editing. Interesting trailer experience. Been dreaming of a Conqueror Commander to allow me to be remote and still in contact with work (power, Starlink, some aircon, etc) - which would work out to be pretty expensive. Also keen of the idea of easy setup (with insta-awn, etc) and being able to leave camp setup on early game drives with no fuss. Thought the conqueror (with air suspension, etc) would allow that and to go as tough as I might like. So would like to see your evaluation of setup options you might consider based on your experience.

Christoff, that footage of the lions was absolutely breathtaking! It’s evident you have a keen eye for capturing the beauty and essence of nature. It’s also admirable how you handle adversity; having mechanical breakdowns in such a remote location can be daunting, but reaching out to Ed and Ryan and their willingness to help just goes to show the strength of the overlanding community. Wishing you many more safe and awe-inspiring journeys!

I’m booked in for a month next year in SA to stay in places like this. It’s a bit of a homecoming of course, and a chance to reunite with old friends. Sadly my wife passed away a few months ago, so this next trip will be a challenge without her at my side. But I’ll leave some of her ashes behind so that her “Africa feet” stay rooted in a place she loved deeply.

Howzit Chris, I too also own a military tuff conqueror🤨 and found this episode extremely informative. Definitely will be packing a spare set of shocks, nuts, bolts and washers. That’s over and above the spare wheel bearings that they recommend you carry. I reckon you guys handled the situation pretty well and having great bunch of mates goes a long way to easing the problem. I do recommend investing in a 5 pound hammer, very useful for dondering in tent pegs and now those pesky bolts. Great job and thanks ❤

Hi Chris. Nice to see wife join you on the trip. I also have a Companion 2010 model and it is just a very nice off-road caravan. When I bought it, it had Safari shocks but quickly replaced it with Monroe's because the Safari shocks keep on failing me. I used the Monroe's for the next about 10 years traveling Namibia, Botswana (Moremi) Zimbabwe (Mana Pools) and decided in 2022 to replaced it because of the upcoming Mabua trip. I was advised to use Tough Dogs. We travelled through the Kalagadi to Mabua and before Matopi I realised that the brand new Tough Dogs both sides failed. I had to do the rest of the trip with NO shocks, going very slow (No ED and Ryan to help me out). The Tough Dogs also failed some other travelers I know. I replaced it again with Monroe's and did Namaqualand Nature Reserve, we did Moremi again and the shocks are still in excellent condition. I believe the Bilstein's you have on now are also very good. I would like to hear what your opinion is of them. I enjoyed your trip very much. Thanks and keep on posting.

The problem when suspensions get complicated it leads to more problems. If your van had leaf springs you could have completed the trip without any problems. Well done on a great video it makes me want to pack and go to the Kalagadi.

Beautiful video as always Chris, question about the radios. What licenses/permits do you need to use those in Bots, Nam, Zim and Zam ?

The lines were implemented to stop cross border migration of cattle and curb, monitor and restrict the spread bovine diseases. This was necessary to approve Botswana for international meat trading.

The cutlines are not fenced so not sure how that would curb migration? As far as I know they primarily serve as firebreaks but are used as roads as well obviously

Great video! Sorry Bout the car trouble, partner the adventure but can be very demoralizing! I am heading they way next year and wanted to ask: how much water did you use on average?

  • @GetOutGO

Thanks! If we use the trailer’s shower (dewhot geyser and sureflow pump) we shower in 5-7l water each (we like to shower every day). Then a little more for dishes as well and drinking water separately (we carried 40l drinking water, used half). The trailer had 160l of water (and I have a 60l tank in the car which we didn’t use any of this time). In CKGR we used one of those Garden master pressurized pesticide bottles. With that we can both shower in 5l of water!

We mostly have hardwood (camelthorn, sekelbush, rooibush, mopani, acacia etc). You’re going to be chopping for hours just to make a little kindling 😉
