Overlanding Idaho's Northwest's Lolo Creek
In this video, we begin to explore our new neighborhood. Not far from where we live here in Northwest Idaho is Lolo Creek. Lolo Creek travels from Montana all the way into Idaho and is a gorgeous creek from what we saw.
We only did a quick little overnight, but we really wanted to get out a start exploring, especially since our property was still drying out from all the spring moisture we received around here.
I'm realizing that we just barely scratched the surface as to the areas that are begging to be explored out here and we can't wait to get out again soon.

Newbie here from north central West Virginia. Might I make a suggestion, I live in a remote area and very familiar with fallen trees on Country roads. You should get a battery chainsaw to carry. I am not of a fan of electric tools ever. I don't have one but I do have a couple of gasoline saws but I keep telling myself, buy a battery saw. Maybe one of these days I will. Love the outdoors.

True. It’s not just about getting to camp...its sometimes about getting home safe. Thanks for the comment.
You folks need to carry one of those battery powered chain saws. To clear trail and to cut firewood. Depending on where you are camping, you wouldn't need to load your Jeep up with firewood.

The usual band of manufacturers make nice battery chainsaws now. I bought the Mikita. They smell better than gas power if you carry inside. Somebody mentioned the tree may fall after you drive through and you must deal with it on way.

Hi Frank - Best advice I can give you is to be loud. The worst thing that can happen is for a bear to be startled by not knowing your there. But if you make a bunch of noise, there will be no surprises and likely move right past you with you even ever knowing he was nearby.

How are you liking Idaho?
@395jnky
2 жыл бұрын
We love it even more than we anticipated. The first few days were the most difficult with separating from family, but since then, everyone has been so welcoming and friendly we are just thrilled.
Welcome to Idaho. I can’t believe that you turned around for that snow. I see someone warned you about bears. I don’t think that one will do much but piss off a brown bear. A 1911 would probably hurt a black bear but you need something bigger for a grizzly. Make a good decision on if you want to shoot. They like to play the “fake charge” game. You will see one eventually but don’t think that you will do anything but make it mad.

Question Mike from a recent resident. Suggestions for hiking with dogs (80lb Choc Lab & 100 lbs Rhodesian Ridgeback) off leash through bear country. Besides 10mm and bear spray.
@iammikemunn
2 жыл бұрын
Noise is the best deterrent. Reality is that your dogs will probably help deal with the bear and warn you of it’s presence and then help you in case of a confrontation. Bear spray is 2nd. You probably won’t have any issues with a male unless he thinks that you are trying to take away food. Females are a different story. My advice: lots of noise, then close range bear spray, then a 10mm. Bears aren’t as scary as people want to believe because you probably won’t see one but if you spend enough time in the woods you might just see one and if you do then try to respect it’s space. Too many people create their own issues with animals. I am more worried about Mountain Lions and skunks to be honest. One will kill you without you knowing (given it’s super rare) and one will make you wish that you were dead.

@@erickaesman4001 just to throw in my 2 cents. Personally if I'm going out in a area with very dense grizzly population I feel safer with a 44 mag with bear loads. I don't doubt a 10mm would kill a grizzly but I personally don't see it stopping in its tracks. I know "bear cartridge" debates go all over the place and realistically nothing compares with a 12 gauge slug but I just feel safer with a 44 bear load. Of course anything is better than nothing but i would look into a 44. If anything it's an excuse to get another toy.

@@brett9382My preference is not to have to kill a bear. I don’t want to, at least not without a tag and out of season. If I am killing a bear out of season I feel like it is a sad waste and I did something wrong. I get the debate, which gun is better for…but I would rather a sow live to raise her cub and her next cub and a boar to be a daddy as much as he can. I am not some environmentalist whacko but man do I love animals. I think we all do.

Yeah I don't think I can agree with the open carry while you're driving in the backcountry while you're cooking food in the back country while you're just moving sticks around in the back country especially where you have the gun on your chest I'm a proud supporter of having a gun and probably support caring it but where you have the gun I'm not a proud supporter of it looks like you're ready to go shoot somebody That type of open carrying a firearm is what gets liberals and Democrats angry at people you open carry like you're actually going to go to war or something that is not cool at all
