Overlanding, Camping, & Paddling through Beautiful Tennessee Mountains [S4E27]

Watch the ad-free and extended episode here: bit.ly/2ZADPJe
For years I'd heard of a fire breathing legend in these mountains... in this episode we head deeper into the Tennessee hills (and mud) to see what we can find.
We also finally get the kayaks out and explore a beautiful stretch of river while putting the peddle drive systems to the test!

That’s what I love about living in Knoxville. Windrock, Royal Blue, Nemo to the north, Smokys to the east, and Tellico to the south.

I hate that the Tellico OHV Rec Area got closed. But, that's the unfortunate result of irresponsible off-roading.

I am sure from watching how you plan things, you have completely, looked into whitewater safety. Kayaks are a great way to explore. I love your adventures. If you ever have questions about whitewater, please feel free to contact us. We have over 15 years as whitewater guides and kayakers. We always enjoy seeing folks journey into new adventures.

I’ve had so much experience with canoes that kayaks would take some getting used to but what a pleasant way to enjoy the river! Listening to the complete joy in Caroline’s voice made me smile. I heard the same joy in my sons’ voices as we chased loons and spied eagles and ospreys! ❤️

Next to Camp, set up kayaks ready for water- install seats,, paddles,, etc. Then carry to water. We found best way to strap Kayaks on racks laying flat. Two tie downs for each unit. Secure 1st one then stack 2nd on top of it. Have traveled thousands of miles Key West to Alaska & back.

Me and a friend traveled all over south in a 1986 suburban with 35 inch tires on it and custom bed built in the back. We also took about eight kayaks with us on most of these adventures. Rack system consisted of round crossbars that had and aluminum rod milled out where are you could run through rope at the top and A cut out on the bottom to attach to round bars. Imagine a single Aluminum bar going 90° from round bar. Simple and sturdy. Coupled with NRS straps they can be used for multiple things

Can you tell me what brand of 2 seat kayak that is with the pedals? Also if you could shed some light on how they are holding up and if you’d recommend them? I have a spinal injury which affects my arms and I’d like to give it a shot to see if I can get out on the water with my son. Thanks for your time.

I made a reply but now I don't see it. You can find the flame by finding 192 Norma Rd, Huntsville, TN 37756. It's a church. Maybe 100 yards or so past the church on the left is the trailhead. Take note if we've had recent rain the crossings can get a little deep. Also in wet weather, if you miss the right turn to the flame there is a muddy area with some really deep spots so be aware 🤟
