    Overland NZ yeah its definitely alot more comfortable and better handling. It feels just as strong as the 90 series and off road it's just as good. The 120 i got has a rear locker so its just ahead in the off road department. My old 90 had the v6 manual but the 120's 3L turbo diesel auto is better I reckon

    Gday guys. I"m in the process of upgrading my 95 surf to do more missions down south I'm doing it backwards as usual starting with the fun stuff that makes it look better an go further but now I'm working on the reliability side of things. Quick question where did you get you digital temp gauges and roughly how much were they? Just got ourselves a caravan and wanting to have a better insight of how hard its working under load. Cheers.

    Hey Lachlan - ahh I know how that feels, it's way more rewarding to do the fun stuff first and get it looking the way you want! Purchased the gauges from www.auberins.com/ - I paid around $220NZD including shipping for both, though the dollar isn't as strong now, so might be a tad more. Chose them over other brands as the value for money was awesome and they came highly recommended by everyone. Was super happy with them, really fast to respond and super easy to read (which was my biggest worry being digital). Cheers, Daniel

  • @OverlandNZTV

    @OverlandNZTV

    2 жыл бұрын

    Heya - depends what you're wanting to run, sensitive devices don't like modified sine waves. Modified sine wave inverters produce a square wave - pure sine wave inverters produce a curvy wave that's the same as the mains grid

    Buddy, a suggestion. Take out the thermostat to save the engine. I have same and after having the head problems and my research, I took the thermostat out. We dont freeze in NZ. We don't need thermostat special on this model

  • @OverlandNZTV

    @OverlandNZTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey mate - I have to disagree on that one sorry. You’ll never get the engine up to temperature without a thermostat - diesels run best around the 80 degree mark. Generally the 1KZ overheats dues to worn out/bad injectors - poor spray pattern leads to high EGTs which cracks them. I did the injectors on this when I bought it as I had no history. Sadly the engine did die, but for other reasons Kaiapoi Repowers did a post on it a while back on Facebook, well worth a read 👍

    @@OverlandNZTV What killed the motor in the end? I'm looking at getting a 90 and tossing up between the Diesel and the 3.4l V6. I've heard these motors are pretty prone to cracking heads. What else should I be wary of? Cheers

    @@OverlandNZTV i do know and understand the optimum temperature is 80°c or around that. But the thermostat its opens at 87°c on these models. The fan constantly turns and not allowing the hose by the thermostat to get to 87°c. By that time the actual engine from cylinder 3 and 4 is over 90°c before thermostat opens. And when it opens cooler coolant is pushed through without enough circulation to rear end.. Slowly causing the damage over time. Thus, this also disturbs the injectors. Again with poor injector and unsettle temperature doesn't help other wise. I have removed the thermostat on my 1kz and it has no issues and stays on the temp mark on hills, on highways. Does drop a little in towns which i understand it should because of low air flow. Its individual choice to figure out the issues. But I know i have fixed mine. I respect the theories as what the books are bases on the diesel basic... But that doesn't mean there wont be design issues with some models. As fir 1kz..it is the design and thermostat issue. If these design came with a 70°c thermostat, then this problem will never would have arisen.

    It was indeed! Was gutted when it died. Way more comfortable than the Hilux. Better offroad too. They have a few common issues, but they're generally pretty reliable. Is worth remembering they're getting pretty old though and do have "old car" issues/are getting worn out. We're replacing the Hilux later this year and briefly thought about buying another 90 Prado
