Thanks. That's a legitimate question. I suspect that one of the primary reasons young people are using narcotics and other drugs is because they know, with absolute certainty, that there is no future. Low paying jobs, a polluted planet, war and violence, working two crappy jobs just to pay the bills. I can't even imagine what being young today is like. Ennui is the problem.

@@Sternodox I think a lot of it has to do with prescribed opioids and our lack of understanding how addiction manifests in different types of people. From what my wife noticed when she was a prescriber at a pain clinic a couple of years ago, the vast majority of people who use pain pills for medical reasons do NOT become addicted, BUT most heroin addicts started via prescribed pain pills; that can't be ignored by Big Pharma anymore. And it speaks to your point of those who are struggling with various issues like anxiety etc. where this little pill just wraps you in a warm hug and makes you feel so content, all the while it's really your worst enemy. And it's not just a socioeconomic issue, a family friend of ours, who was in his 60's, very wealthy, and was even a State governor in the 1990's died of an overdose earlier this year.

@@bjkarana I'm very sorry about your friend. Of course addicts exist in all age groups. It's now the leading cause of death amongst 18-35 year olds. Stopping the supply does not stop the problem, Katie’s Mom. Stopping the supply leaves addicts without their drug of choice and they will turn to other substances (alcohol, other legal drugs, etc.) to get that same feeling/fix. You only stop the problem when you TREAT the problem effectively.

I understand the hurt and pain of the families. My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected. While the dealers and suppliers need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. However we need to realize the people buying these drugs KNOW the risk! They are making a choice to take that risk. Even if your buying something like an Adderall. You know there is a chance it may not be what you think it is. But yet they take the risk. Addiction is a mental and physical sickness. The war on drugs has only made the issues worse. Instead of fighting the dealers and suppliers, let’s take away their business. We need state issued drugs made by professionals. Open addiction disorder facilities where people can go for drugs taken in a safe place under the supervision medical professionals. All the while helping the people to get off of it and to get their lives back. How do we pay for this? All the billions poured into the war on drugs would more than cover the cost. And the dealers and suppliers would take HUGE hits to their wallets. If even 50% of their customers started going to these addiction facilities instead of buying off the street it would put a massive dent into the dealers and suppliers AND would go along way into stoping people from entering into that as a way of making money

I’m a recovering fentanyl addict myself & although I’m more than VERY grateful to still have my life, people don’t understand the HALF of what it’s like to be the victim of addiction ! It’s NOT a choice, it’s a illness. Your suggestion would save soooo many lives & would absolutely have a better success rate than rehabilitation programs that send them right back on the streets after 30-90 days of being sober.

First, officials and media are usually running a couple years behind on a topic like this... by the time it catches someone's eye and it dawns on them something needs done, the problem has already rooted itself into society and matured... so they gotta play catch-up before actually tackling the problem. And as far as arresting the dealers, ok. Great idea. But just remember, when you take one off the street, three more are ready to replace the one. they don’t miss a beat. And sometimes I believe the dealers aren’t arrested because law enforcement believes they’re doing a favor to society when a user dies because they (users) are oftentimes criminals trying to support their habit. It’s a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

Sadly part of the problem is that most doctors and hospitals now refuse to give pain medication to pain patients. They feel desperate to relieve their pain and end up buying off the streets. Then they become addicted to the fentanyl that is in almost all pills on the streets now. Yes there are plenty like this story that do it for fun or to relieve depression, but many are also people who should be being treated by their doctor for their pain but the doctors won’t so they find pain relief elsewhere and then die. We need to stop the war on pain patients. It would absolutely help stop the overdoses. Even if some sell their pill, which the vast majority don’t, then some non fentanyl pills would be on the street again.

He would smoke about 8 a day at that point he told me that he is in prison now. I didn't use for a while.... I started again because my Sciatic nerve got mest up and the hospital gave me Ibuprofen 800mg it was useless my pain was so bad I couldn't move. I started doing more and more slowly. When your building tolerance you throw up alot your body doesn't take it... I started smoking them... Last month I smoked 4 pills and I didnt have more so I started smoking the resin (build up) inside the Metal straw huge hits I was peaking without noticing it till I knocked out my gf was sleep it was 4 a.m... she heard me do a weird snoring noise and tried waking me up by hitting me hard in the face and punching me in the body etc.. she called 911 and tried cpr on me but didn't work.. took me 2 minutes to wake up by myself I don't remember nothing... just remember ambulance at my door. Be careful with those buy Narcan if you feel confused nauseous.. - God Bless 🙏

But I think one of the biggest problems that we have is is accountability, too many people want to blame the dealers and the doctors but make the addicts victims when they are just to blame if not worse, I don't think dealers should get charged with first degree murder or second degree murder or manslaughter even for selling drugs and people doing them by their own accord

Congrats indeed!! Much respect for you! May I ask you how long it took you for the withdrawals to cease? I think that’s a huge reason that people can’t stop is due to withdrawals being so violent. I’m a chronic pain patient and I have been since my mid to late 30’s. I’m 53 now and I have to say that I’m definitely addicted to these meds! It’s just the truth and I’m not ashamed to say it. I am, on the other hand SICK off having to see a pain clinic EVERY month!! I have anxiety like no other and just knowing that I have to see a Dr every month drives me nuts! If drs would’ve told me years ago that these pain meds were addictive, I wouldn’t have touched the first one. I think I would’ve tried a more natural remedy instead. I’m to the point in my life that I just want to break away from this medicine. Thank you in advance for any advice/help that you can provide. I really appreciate it! God bless you♥️

What I don't understand: Opioids are addictive and dangerous. Over here in Europe, they are mostly used in palliative care or extreme medical situations like cancer or complex surgeries. In Switzerland and the Netherlands opioids are being used in assisted suicides. Even if a doctor would prescribe me opioids for something like back pain (even chronic back pain), I would never ever take it. There are enough NSAIDs which are helpful (most of the time). It's so hard to fathom that millions of people with every day pain get a prescription for something that dangerous. If doctors are acting that irresponsible, you have to educate yourself in order to shield you from taking something as harmful as opioids for relatively "common" types of pain.

It's quite interesting to watch this documentary of the dangers of Fentanyl while I'm sitting here smoking "Fetty" at the same time. The honest truth is that somehow I feel invincible and untouchable in that I'd NEVER die of "Fetty" - which is such an ignorant way of thinking. But TRUST ME when I say that I've many, many times to stay clean through several rehabs and recovery programs. But I should try extra hard to kick this habit. And once I do I would be celebrating my LIBERATION. As for now, I continue to use it so I don't withdraw nor get sick from it.
