This was so amazing to see. I don’t have Autism, but I do suffer with SPD. And have since before I can remember, for years I didn’t know what it was and am overwhelmed with joy to be able to hear other similar stories and put a name to my feelings! I can’t STAND jeans, I have to wear palaooza or wide legged sweat pants, and I’m VERY particular, it makes it very difficult. I have one t-shirt I wear around the house everyday and only wear other things when I go out. I always set a time in my head for how long I have to wear it, and it helps. I never wear bras around the house either, they have to be the sports kind and I great fully shead them upon returning home. It’s always stressful to imagine my clothes ripping etc, because it’s so hard to fine replacements. I just want anyone out there struggling with SPD to know your not alone, you can go on with life and it will be ok.

Dude… as a kid I thought I was the only one with this.. I find that two shirts can be 100% cotton and both shirts will feel totally fucking different to me…

I don’t have autism but I’ve been trying to get over my problems with jeans material. I love the look of them and REALLY wanna wear them out but every time I do it’s just too uncomfortable! Luckily I’ve made a bit of progress, I have started wearing blue Jean jackets on occasion and I try to wear Jean pants when lounging around to try to get use to them, but I still haven’t been able to wear them for more than an hour (without legging on underneath at least) If anyone has any tips please let me know, I’m 16 years old and I would like to start dressing like it instead of just wind pants and a shirt to winter events.

You don’t “overcome“ SPD you just learn how to pressure yourself and wear clothes that make you nervous, anxious and suffocated for a couple of hours until the event ends. I hate tight clothing, if i want to be comfortable, happy and at ease i won’t wear them.

Your son probably bought jeans to make you happy or just to try. I doubt he feels comfortable in them. Please mothers of autistic kids : don’t try to make your kids neurotypical, they will never be, you’ll just make them suffer to act like someone they aren’t. We are great as we are, we are amazing as we are, the only problem we face are neurotypicals who want us to to be like them for them to accept us.

I'm on the spectrum as well and also have an issue with bras. Most of the time I just don't wear one. Sometimes, esp. when I would otherwise feel too self-conscious about it, I wear a very light and slightly too loos sports bra top with these removable cups. This might be an acceptable solution for other who have similar issues.
