Despite not containing even a single Rock Fact, this is a well thought out and lovely analysis of the show.

You put my feelings on Wirt's "Wait...That's dumb" into words and that's something I never quite expected to happen. Thanks for being so eloquent!

I was honestly so excited to "meet" Wirt for the first time. I've always been pretty self-isolating, even before Kindergarten, and it caused a lot of struggles in high school, when I met my first crush. Even from the first episode, I felt so seen in Wirt's spontaneous poetry. As things went on, and finally, the flashback episode, I was so glad to have a character I understood completely. Wirt's cassette tape was my various letters, which were saved in a box and eventually burned unread by anyone. Wirt putting on a homemade Halloween costume was a reflection of the entirety of my wardrobe choices, things that made me feel good and like my own entity. By the end of the series, "good" felt like the wrong word to describe it, since it reminded me of parts of myself that I honestly don't always like, but there was a warm feeling in my heart, and I knew that I loved it and would watch it many, many times.

"Feels like the love child of the weirdest Danny Elfman score and one of the more normal Tom Waits albums" had me cracking up😂 Lots of great stuff in here! Subscribed

The thing I love about Wirt is that while his character needed development, it is ultimately his nihilistic thought process that helps him figure out the beast's weakness. A typical hero, the self-assured and optimistic kind, would have accepted the beast's offer and ruined their life in order to satisfy its hunger. But Wirt being his usual pessimistic self, always being distrustful and hesitant, is the only person who realizes that the beast is trying to manipulate him. This shows that while his character arc required him to be more confident and optimistic, his pessimism was useful in certain scenarios.

Man It's been so long since I've watch this show ! I think I was literally Greg's age when it first aired on TV in my country , but I remember that even back then I could tell there was something different about the show that I just couldn't fully put into words

I just discovered your channel through the Madoka Magica video. The fact that you don't have at least 250k subs is an absolute atrocity to me. This video is a brilliant discussion and one of the best videos on Over the Garden Wall I've watch. Your intro hits hard and I think you did very well in making a video on something so important to you. I can relate to that fear of death.

Loved this analysis! The two views of death that you talked about really opened by eyes more about this show.

This show resonates so much with me and you’ve articulated very well a lot of the reasons why! The different approaches to limbo and the unknown coexisting, the classic Americana folklore vibes, and being an amazingly executed miniseries to name a few. Some other things you mentioned, I have not considered before: the cassette being a MacGuffin, as well as the Beast gaslighting people and how that’s even more poetic because he has them keep the lantern burning. Wirt’s refusal of the beast being essentially anticlimactic making narrative sense too.
