Let me say this. When I turned 60, even 50’s rules changed for me. I’m 62. I’ll share my tips. Press and dab into skin it’s a must. No drag or pull. Powder use a dab or even finger under eyes. LESS IS MORE. I hardly wear foundation I don’t use around mouth or where wrinkles are just what’s left over-Blush is hard. Use , but lightly build and then blend into skin so no lines show, no heavy liner or like heavy black. USE highlighter, only a slight glow , (if you have pores or wrinkles ) also the dark sides of nose like heavy bronzer. Blending. Be light handed is the trick. Even now, I can’t wear as much as I did.

I REALLY miss Prescriptives. Their custom blend powder and foundation were awesome. There was another company that custom blended lipsticks. One of the best tips that you've touched on here (and in other videos) is that as we get older we should be going for a softer look. As a 64 yo I find using harsh colors and lines calls attention to the products, not my features. If I want to go for that "pop" or use the newest craze that's great - but I may need to modify the application techniques to achieve the end result I want. Thanks for helping us enhance our looks and making our outsides match our inner beauty Risa!

I completely agree with the #2 tip using light foundation. When I use foundation that matches me perfectly, I look like a ghost. I usually go the next darker shade that matches me and then I use powder which usually lightens it. When I look too pale, bronzer doesn’t help me. I completely agree and glad you mentioned this!

I’ve already made these changes to my routine. And the blush placement? Thank you for bringing that up! It’s important to always take your face shape into consideration. The corner lashes are less intimidating and more natural and comfortable. They really are all that’s needed.

I'm 59 and I'll have to admit I'm pretty impressed that I have already implemented most of your recommendations and it does make a difference! However, I am very intimidated by false eyelashes. My oldest sister has worn false eyelashes for years (the ones that are applied by a professional). She is 70 and has lost alot of her own lashes due to some of her own lashes coming out with the false ones. How can this this avoided? I am very interested in giving the corner lashes a try for special occasions. I have had issues with my own lashes for awhile due to autoimmune issues but have been able to grow them quite well with applying castor oil. Thanks for all of your videos!

Absolutely love this video Risa and thank you so much for this 🫶 I’ve watched your videos for a long time as I really respect your expertise with make up but I also so appreciate your content directed towards +40 women (I’m 50 next year). I’m struggling a lot with what I do now ‘make up wise’ and these tips have given me so many ideas for switching up my routine. Please can we have more of these videos? 🙏🏻 xx

I love this video! Risa gives great advice.I’m not an MUA, but I have learned a lot from a lot of them. Sometimes, it’s what not to do based on what they did. But I also learned what types of products to use and where to use them and what tools to use. (I still find that a soft or medium toothbrush works well for grooming eyebrows.) For a very long time, I used those white, triangle-shaped sponges to apply my foundation, a powder puff to apply my setting powder, a big fluffy brush to get rid of the excess, and a smaller brush for finishing powder. I’d forgotten, until Wayne Goss reminded me, that a very thin layer of powder before applying foundation makes any foundation look better. Using all the products and applicators takes practice, but I feel it’s worth it for special occasions. I would never go through all of that for everyday makeup. A clear lip liner can become your favorite tool to keep your lipstick where it belongs. When you get the hang of it, it doesn’t add much time to your routine. Likewise, false lashes get to be so easy to apply that you wonder why you tried every mascara that came out trying to get the lashes you want when “falsies” were available.

Awesome tips. Am 48 and have been applying foundation your way for years. Was happy to see your technique. Ditched the eyeliner under the eyes years ago. I loved your blush tips. I have been using a bit too much lately, too much influence by influencers. Thats why I always return to your channel.

Shoot I’m so glad you gave the blush advice! I’ve tried to apply it the way most influencers say to, for the mature woman that I am. I always still feel the urge to place it a bit lower on my face because I feel I need the color and the brightening to my complexion. Thank you Risa!

Thank you Risa. I’m 54 & do, or don’t do about most of those things. I’m excited to try them. I know I also don’t blend enough. It takes so much time. I have too unsteady hands for lipliner, but use a good lip product that doesn’t move or come off or spread. Luckily someone talked me out of black eyeliner under my eyes years ago, but every other tip you gave I’ll try!! Hopefully I’ll have less cakeiness under my eyes. In all these lines! Have a fabulous holiday season! ♥️ Jessica

Great video! I was surprised, however, that you didn’t address brows! Such an important part of your final look! Women make so many mistakes with their brows: over-tweezing, not shaping them at all, making them too dark or too opaque, extending them too far out, etc. And there are so many options in terms of brow grooming from permanent to pencil. Maybe a part 2? I was hoping you would talk about contouring too. To contour or not to contour, and if you need it, best way to do it… 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm definitely in the black eyeliner cold dead hands group but I use that exact Rephr brush to soften it. Lisa Elderidge's Seamless Glide Eye Pencils blend like a dream or you can use them to create a sharp dramatic line. I can't recommend that product enough.

Most of these suggestions I *just* started to figure out - I spent years doing just basic work makeup. Then a decade being a mom with no makeup. So a LOT changed in between that time, along with my whole face 😮 lol - but it’s true, there are so many tools and new products, and the whole way of doing makeup is very different then when I was younger. It’s kind of like I’m experiencing makeup like a teenager again, but with nicer products (and a “wiser” face? 😅) I found that setting up time to just play with makeup really helped… I’m a no-makeup/ light makeup gal in my daily life, but if I don’t practice, then I don’t really know how to “do it up” when I want to. And I was doing it all the old ways, which was not working out well - your suggestion are spot on, and I, glad I’m on the right track -- uhhh… I’m a little scared of,eyelashes though 🫣 - maybe next year 😊
