Also do codes get erased by them self as new parts get install or you most use a reset tool to get rid of the code? Thanks for what you do................saved my butt a few times already. reason im asking is because I got code 3057 fmi-2. and sensor was replaced 3 weeks ago.

    Thanks for reaching out. You cant test the nox sensor but you can test the harness side for voltage and ground. Testing the nox sensors would be with a routine done through diagnostic link computer. And that would just read of there drifting. But once a new one is installed a regen and clearing of the code need to be done. In some cases an scr efficiency test will need to be ran to get it to clear. Hope that helps

    @bustedknucklebydieseldr3228

    Great question, there may not be an issue when comparing them. If it’s cold than they should be within 25 deg. If it’s just at operating temp they will be fairly close around 350 deg. When doing a regen inlet will be higher due to fuel dosing spikes. When outlet temp consistently stays higher I would suspect a faulty sensor.

    This particular code is a closed loop code. If there is an issue with bad def, bad nox sensors , any temp sensor on the aftertreatment, or any blockages in that system. Any of those issue will cause this code to come active. The regen first is the best thing to do In order to see if there is a failure anywhere. If it passes with nothing obvious showing a failure than multiple scr effiencey tests will need to be done in order to clear this code or it will keep coming back like you have now. I imagine they only did a regen and not the eff test. That will need to be done and I’m sure it’ll help you out.

    @@yazzyfresh thanks for watching hung and reaching out. This code is going to be impossible without a diagnostic computer. This is scr closed loop code which means your regens haven’t been running very well and your acm- after treatment computer is registering very poor values. This would have you check def quality and quantity than would do a nox sensor check regen followed by multiple scr efficiency tests. This code has plagued Detroit’s for many years now and can be expensive to fix. Usually 6-8 hrs in a dealer.

    Good question man. To answer the question easy. There’s so many tests that need to be done including testing the def, checking all the sensors,and monitoring pressures to ensure no plugging. I can’t give you a straight answer without seeing it in action. Majority of the time a sensor is drifting and or def build up in the scr catalyst.

    Thanks for reaching out. This can be a tricky one with low nox conversion. I would stick to basics. Check def doser quantity than check def quality. It’s possible you might have bad def. Than find out what your pump is doing while testing it. If all that passes than I’d start testing your one box and sensors with a low temp regen than actual regen to see if any sensor is drifting. If none are drifting your onebox may need to be replaced. This t/s will get extensive and you may need to get someone you trust on it to give you wise and knowledgeable info.

    Sorry what I mean is, I had a diagnosis done by loves truck stop. And the report showed active and inactive codes. The active code showed I needed a new actuator. When getting a diagnosis everything that was diagnosed will either show active which is something you need to pay attention to, or inactive as it’s not a problem. When to velocity Freightliner to see I can have them put the actuator. After their dia they came up with the same report as loves did, but said I needed a nox sensor. Now on the report the nox sensor was inactive. After sitting there and four other trucker came through and needed a force regen, the company charged all of saying they needed nox sensor, but on all their dia-report it showed the nox sensor as inactive. Long story short, I took my truck to another mechanic which put the actuator on and he said I didn’t need a nox sensor because the code for the nox sensor was inactive. Haven’t had a problem with my truck since. In other words, I think velocity Freightliner is defrauding truck drivers just because they have check engine lights on their trucks saying that they all need nox sensors when the sensors are inactive. Make sense?

    @@tommietaylor2668 gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. But.. let me help. Always chase the active fault codes. As for the inactive all manufacturers say if it’s within 25 Eng hrs and more than 10 counts than you chase that inactive as well. I imagine your was recent or high counts so that’s why they chased it. It just makes more sense than focusing on one and you having another cel in a few weeks. Hope that helps.

    @@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 hi friend thanks for your video and help. You mentionned seized up sensors. My 2014 Cascadia...DD15...is in the garage. Tech went to replace outlet nox sensor and when old one came out some thread damage allegedly occurred on onebox. So the problem now is that the nox sensor will not thread into its correct position. And they are now saying they need to re and re onebox in order to pursue alternate repair possibilities. Obviously I am resistant to that idea. I have some repair ideas, I would love to hear yours.

    @@californiadreaming9216 thanks for watching and reaching out man. Seems to always happen with the inlet and outlet sensors. When this happens I use a tap I can usually 95% of the time fix the threads without removing the entire one box. It is time consuming but in the end saves a lot more money than cutting out the bung hole and welding on a new bung port for the sensor. Just make sure they use a special bottoming out tap so they can go all the way down. I don’t forget the most important part these videos make great Xmas present for the last-minute holiday shopper. Stay safe out there

    @@californiadreaming9216 I would say there’s a decent amount of pressure coming out of the tailpipe because the system needs so much back pressure to work correctly. As for how hot it gets about 1000° the system goes up to upwards of about 1200°.

    I can definitely relate. They get seized up in there and sometimes you just have to cut them out and use a 7/8 deep 1/2 drive socket. Majority of the time I’m cleaning up threads from damaged sensors. Such a pain. Good news is new or old they both suck. So something to look forward to.
