This is crazy, how much the Outlander producers pay attention to the smallest details. This song has been chosen by Roger on purpose, because he's singing for Brianna. There is this sentence "how many strawberries grow in the salt sea" which is hard to understand. One of the explanations is that the strawberries are for a Celtic clan coming from an old French place, these people called themselves "les gens de la fraise" (which means "the people of the strawberry") and the name of the clan is, of course, the Fraser !

Earl of Mar they played the recorded version for the filming, but you could hear him singing and playing guitar along with it at times. He was brilliant. It was such a fun day

Earl of Mar yeah it was filmed in Scotland a couple of years ago. It was filmed near Christmas so all the crew were wearing Christmas jumpers and we all sat drinking cherryade and watched him perform all day. I've done a few days on Outlander and it's a fantastic experience. I'm very lucky.

Can't get over Richard Rankin's voice and mad skills with the guitar. The perfect Roger Mac!

You can see this is the moment Bree really falls in love with Roger though she wasn't really ready for marriage so fast. But you could see it in her face that she really fell for him. It was so sweet when she pulled out the drawing of her and Roger.

Check out Jessie Ferguson's version on KZread. If you like this that's about as close as you'll get and it's really good. I like the acoustic versions but I also like when they use the Scottish words as opposed to the English

We ladies want more, but unfortuneately where we are in Season 5, he can no longer do this. Mr Rankin, put out a CD of ballads, it will sell, we love your singing and your acoustic guitar.

OMG, Rik Rankin absolutely killed on this song -- incredible! I listened to many other versions here and this one leaves them all in the dust -- even the ones by Pentangle and the irreplaceable Sandy Denny. That's quite an achievement!

Just saw ep12 and wow! Rik does indeed shine as Roger at his lowest point. After his "like and idiot" speech, I realized that this song was more foreshadowing than I thought.

Beautiful song and his accent makes me go weak at the knees! He is my favourite character in the show now and I love him and Bree together.

So I never knew of outlander until recently, I started watching it, and couldn’t be more proud to be a Fraser, obviously I knew of the history of our great clan before, my da told me on the first occasion we met after 25 years of no contact, unfortunately I’m childless and the last of my particular strand, the only son of the first son of the first son and so on, my da still lives in Inverness and I’m thinking of rekindling the years we missed, but I am proud, proud to be a scot proud to be a highlander, proud to be a Fraser je suis prest for a independent Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If you haven't watched Richard in "Burnistoun" go check it out for a different side again! I thought he was easy on the eye then, but having seen "The Crimson Field" "Thirteen" "From Darkness" etc, he's also a very good actor. To discover he's musical as well is the cherry on top! ;)
