You actually are riding between the ocean and the sound. I live on the INNER BANKS and commercial fished on the Pamlico Sound with my late husband. We are a unique area and COMMUNITY. The Pamlico Sound is a powerful force to live with. We face hurricanes and still stay here. I always feel a little regret for those raving about their outer banks vacation because they missed the treasure across the Sound. Crossing the mighty Pamlico Sound is an experience all it's own! Glad you got close and shared the gift of the land and the locals. 💚

I have been going to the Outer Banks every year for about 15 years now. I stay in a house in Buxton, which is the little village that claims Hatteras Lighthouse as it's own. I've tried to explain to folks why I go every year to the same exact place. In the future, instead of trying in vain to explain it myself, I'm going to start showing your wonderful guide to them. Thank you very much for sharing this with us. 🙂

I speak from experience Lea, the Outer Banks, aka OBX, kept my wife and I coming back virtually every year since the 1980's. Now, health keeps us from going again. But, thanks for your wonderful video of reminders of why OBX and Ocracoke became such a special place for us. Thank you for choosing to go that way. By the way we never waited that long for a ferry to Hatteras Island. 👍👍👍

Lea, this is your “new motorcycle friend” Steve (BMW GSA). Great video! That was a fun day. We had to wait 2 ferries (they wouldn’t let us squeeze in either). We made it to Kitty Hawk and just when we cleared, the big storm came so I waited it out under cover while the guy on the Harley rode to his hotel. You were better off staying down in the OBX, since it looks like you didn’t get hit with the storm.

I just got back from the OBX (where I call my home) and even though I lived there while in my mature 20's (over 40 years ago) I knew that I would always return to my Lady of the Island. I spoiled many families in summertime using my connections to get free seafood from Wancheese fish houses and cook and serve it all in their vacation cottages on the ocean. I'm very pleased with your documentary so it's only fair for me to share an upcoming event on the OBX in hopes we can meet there face to face and exchange our travel tales. They did move Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to keep from losing her to the Atlantic and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore has been busy restoring her inside and outside with plaster patch work, red bricks replaced and new paint inside and out. The time came to consider restoring the light source which is made completely of mirrors, but the cost wasn't left in the budget. They are now going to install a 1980's Disco Ball for a light and John Travolta has agreed to appear and is the master of ceremony to complete this historical event. Cool, huh? The date has not been set but IS in the works to take place. I'll be a sweetheart and let You know as soon as I know the exact date & time. I was quite excited to watch all of your drone footage and that You're using all precautions. Very wise woman~! I do wish to share something that You'll certainly enjoy that I found here on KZread. The complete plane/camera footage from Hatteras airstrip to Manteo airstrip. Near the end as the plane is approaching the first sight of land before land, the plane flies right over my waterfront winter cottage (that are used for Lost Colony actors all summer) and just to the left is where Andy Griffith home used to be. I did not know it was torn down after he passed away. You have a new subscriber also 🥰😘

To be honest I think as well that the ferry usually isn’t that busy if you don’t travel over the big holiday times in the USA (which I was still kind of in on this trip). Other people here already commented that they have not waited that long. So I think I was just unlucky with the big trucks pulling up in front of me all the time. 😅 I am sure you will love this trip if you do the outer banks too, I really think it’s a special place (and a good place to do a rest day!!!)

Really enjoyed this section because I wanted to do this very trip (North to South) and couldn't due to time constraints. I plan to do it next year after the MABDR. I did get to visit the Wright Brothers' site along with the life-size bronze sculpture of the flyer taking off. I took the time to clamber up and sit next to Orville and imagine how he must have felt during take-off. They never wore protective gear, imagine that! Also thanks for including the Ferry info, and recommending a nice place to overnight. 🙂

Wow! Thanks for the beautiful video... and the memories. We went to Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills from Dallas in the late 70's in my then newish Alpha Romeo convertible, which was also a good way to see the islands. There was hardly any development at all, very wild actually. Being from North Texas, I didn't know much about sea foodl, but I ordered crabs at dinner in the little cafe. They turned out to be the same black crabs I'd been dodging on the beach all day! Don't think I are very much.. It was great, though, and we stayed 2 weeks rather than the planned 1. Looking forward to next week... The Blue Ridge Parkway is a favorite drive of mine. Happy trails!

That’s exactly the charm of the outer banks - I really could have stayed so much longer there too, it was so peaceful and nice (but as well very booked at my time of traveling)

The part of the video where you said you wanted breakfast but nothing was open, I was saying out loud, just a few more miles north and you get to Biscuits and Porn. Good quick breakfast stop on the fly, plus you'd get a new sticker for your bike. Nice video, but you were very close to experiencing much more of the OBX. You didn't walk to the dune at Jockeys Ridge I take it for you sure would have posted video from the top; you missed out there. What about Southern Shores up to Duck and Corolla? More beautiful sights, nature, and another lighthouse was waiting for you.

I did that ride in April of this year. I used to live in Morehead City, NC. It is a nice place to ride.

1st time watching your videos. My wife and I ate dinner and watched this as we ate in our house in Nags Head. I was laughing pretty hard when I saw you taking the "back door" entrance to the Wright Bros. Monument.... very honest of you to drive over to the real entrance. Good luck on the rest of your journey!

You did good on the motel. Love parking in front on the level. Tie a string to your baby. So easy to unpack and pack out. Never loose the horizon. Good catch of the moon and sunrize. You did well seeing the Wright Bros. Monument. Can't believe you coming so close to home in the mountains.

Yes, motels definitly are my favorite! I am always a bit sad that there are basically no motels in Europe. Here you can be sure that you always have to carry your things at least up a few stairs 😂😂😂😂

We just booked both of the places you suggested. I appreciate the info on the ferry too. The sunset horse back ride at Cedar Island is a must do.

Wow....I thought you looked familiar. I rode the Cedar Island ferry with you. I was the first vehicle in line at the Hatteras ferry. Yes, it was super frustrating getting on that ferry. Great video! I actually just back from a trip from Ocracoke Monday.

I really enjoy your show. I used to do extensive bicycle touring but am too old to ontinue . My son and I are planning a car trip to the Outer Banks in early November. After watching your show, we decided to cancel the portion that involved riding ferries. Just too much possibly of delays . We will retrace our route and explore the coastal wetlands on the mainland. My son, who does drone photography, really likes your work. I take picture because I paint using oil and pastel.

It's good you're seeing this now, because just since '92 sea level has risen 10.1 centimeters (3.98 inches). I see why you have the following you do, subscribed on this, the first of your videos I've watched.

It has only one restaurant😳. Normally you get buried in places to eat. Great surroundings. I grew up near a nature reserve called De Peel and Mariapeel. Peel means peat marshes. Compatible with Hohes Fenn in Germany, only much warmer. Hohes Fenn was freezing cold in mid summer. Great drone footage again. There’s always room for motorcycles. Indeed strange. Dutch ferries always have room for motorcycles and bicycles. Outer Banks is gorgeous. The sandy roads and dunes look similar to the dunes and roads around the North Sea. Long ago I stayed on the island Ameland (im Wattenmeer) right next to the lighthouse.

Only one closed restaurant. 😂 I guess it’s because it’s really not that super developed - which is so lovely! And yes…. The ferry … to be honest now I completely forgot about the long wait meanwhile and only remember the nice people of the outer banks. That’s how it always is for me.
