Painting @lewisnoble_artist
Photos @cyclopsrock
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

You are so right about getting the feeling, colours and energy down and enjoying expressing how it’s making you feel, rather than making a realistic copy of the scene that a photo would provide! Love your approach.

Going through comments I'd missed - sadly I just saw this post the day after our Bruce left us. They're such good pals, it's heartbreaking when they go. The only way to avoid it is not to have them though, which would be even sadder I think. Who'd want to miss out on all those great walks and love they give you? Thanks for watching.

Terrific video, Lewis. This was so helpful for me. I tend to be a neat freak and struggle to sketch outside of my brain. Your emotive style and ability to speak of your intent is very encouraging. Thank you, and thank you for seeing beauty in a vast arena.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful spring day and a very energetic sketch. Where I live in Canada we still have about three feet of snow so this video was extra special - love your work!

Love watching your videos Lewis, so useful to see your approach to abstracting the landscape. My local landscape is also very rural and beautiful and it is so easy to be overwhelmed by the beauty and fall into the trap of trying to reproduce what’s in front of you which of course can never do it justice. Capturing a small element or a feeling is much less daunting, useful and exciting!
