This was an anti Vietnam song. So full of emotion. The entire band, Blackmore, Gillan, Glover, Pace and Lord were ALL top notch. Welcome to the world of real musicians, vocalists and engineers. I’m so glad I grew up in the 70’s.

Recorded in early 1970 for a British Channel 4/ITV show. One of the song's earliest live renditions, even before the "Deep Purple In Rock" album was released. The folk in the studio didn't really know what the hell was happening to them. They were invited to watch some "pop" group and were overwhelmed by this wall of sound, music they'd never experienced before and they didn't know how to react. You don't listen to Child In Time, you experience it and let it take-over your state of mind. You'll never be the same again afterwards. Such glory. Such magnificence. Fifty-two years later and it's still number one on my "greatest songs of all time" list. I swear.

This was one of four tracks, the others being Wring That Neck, Mandrake Root and Speed King, recorded at the Granada TV Studios in Manchester in 1970 - nothing to do with Channel 4 as that didn't launch until 1982. Reason for the lack of reaction from the crowd (including the footballer George Best) was that they were under strict instruction to sit still and keep quiet as it was a live recording. Here's the best I can find...enjoy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJZhy7GYgbbQpsY.html

He was, but he didn't write this one. It's virtually a cover version of a 1969 track called "It's a Beautiful Day" by Bombay Calling. I hope they got a lot of royalties, cus if not, it's a total rip off. Check it out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHWCscqnose6iso.html

This is also early heavy rock. Deep Purple wore both prog and heavy hats at that time. This is an excellent version done live for TV and is a bit different to the studio version on the Deep Purple In Rock Album. Also Child in Time was recorded a couple of years before Smoke on the Water. A great song from early Deep Purple the use of build up, tension, transitions and emotion is fantastic. Nobody dose anything like that anymore. For more Deep Purple you should try; Highway Star, Lazy, Space Trackn', Speed King, Black Night, Burn, Flight of the Rat, Fireball, Demon's Eye, Woman from To Tokyo, Super Trouper and Rat Bat Blue. That will be a good intro to classic Deep Purple. Great reaction I really enjoy seeing young people get into this great music from the early 70's.

I prefer the original. Everyone thinks this is the pinnacle of their career's, but it's pretty much a cover version. Deep Purple added words, but the music is straight ripped from a 1969 song by Bombay Calling. Behold: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHWCscqnose6iso.html

Ian Gillan sang the lead role of Jesus on the album version of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. Released on October 12, 1970, it reached No.1 in the US on the February 20, 1971 chart.

Name a single band in the top 10 today that could put out something half as epic as Deep Purple and then play it live. I dare you. LOL. If anyone ever tells you there's no business for keyboards to be in Hardrock/Metal just tell them the lord demands it, as in JOHN LORD. John Lord is in my opinion the best keyboard player of all time. Just wait until you listen to "Highway Star". Great reaction, I love how you were feeling that music.
